I’ve Been Suspicious Since The Day I Was Born Chapter 12

The TV flickered to a new file.

Kitchen camera. Two weeks before the SATs.

Mrs. Shaw was making me a calming herbal tea—she did it every night.

She glanced around, pulled a small bottle from her pocket, and dripped three clear drops into my cup.

Then she stirred it and carried it out.

“What is that?” My mom’s voice went sharp.

Mrs. Shaw’s crying stopped. She sat there, gray and limp.

“What did you give my daughter!” My mom grabbed her by the hair.

“Nothing—it was a supplement—”

“Supplement?” I skipped to the next clip.

This one had audio—from the maid’s room.

“Mom, does it work? She’s been taking it every day?” Nina’s voice was excited.

“Of course. I paid a fortune for this stuff. Colorless, odorless. A few drops a day and she’ll get foggy, paranoid. Soon she’ll be legitimately crazy.”

“Once she’s in the psych ward, the whole family fortune will be yours. Just play nice with your godparents.”

“You’re amazing, Mom! When I inherit their money, I’ll buy you a mansion and you can eat like a queen every day!”

The video ended.

Dead silence.

My mom let go of Mrs. Shaw like she was poison.
