He Left Me to Freeze, So I Burned His World Down Chapter 13

So soon after waking up, she had already wanted to leave him.

It wasn’t because he cheated. It wasn’t because of Piper, or the child.

If it had been just those things, she would have cried, made a scene, screamed at him like she had in the past.

But at the foundation luncheon, she hadn’t. She had smiled, raised a glass, and wished him and Piper happiness.

That hadn’t been forgiveness. It had been goodbye.

Why had she deceived him? Why had she done all of this behind his back?

A scalding rage burned through Graham’s chest. He lunged forward and grabbed the lawyer by the collar.

“Where is Ava?”

“I… I don’t know, Mr. Lockwood.” The lawyer’s face was white, his voice trembling. “After I delivered the documents to Miss Hart, I haven’t seen her.”

Graham’s fingers tightened, his knuckles turning white.

“But under her authorization, I have already begun liaising with Mr. Bennett Shaw’s team to prepare for the restructuring of the foundation’s board.”

Bennett Shaw.

The name was an icicle piercing through Graham’s anger, leaving a bone-deep chill. Ava didn’t just want to leave him; she wanted to join forces with another man and kick him out of the Hart family’s center of power completely.

He loosened his grip. The lawyer staggered back, looking at him as if he were a bomb about to explode.

Just then, his assistant hurried in, breaking the suffocating tension.

“Sir, about the stable incident… We found out.”

“Speak.” Graham’s voice was hoarse. He didn’t even glance at the lawyer, who looked ready to bolt.

As if granted amnesty, the lawyer turned and vanished.

The assistant hesitated, then handed over a report, lowering his voice.

“It was… Miss Piper’s idea.”

“Piper?” Graham’s body went rigid. He slowly turned his head.

The assistant didn’t dare meet his eyes. “She contacted the two stable guards privately and paid them. She told them to lock the door again after Miss Hart and Miss Blake thought they could get out.”

The assistant paused, then added the cruelest detail.

“She specifically instructed them to create chaos and lock the main doors when Miss Blake went back for the documents.”

“The report confirms that because of the delay, Miss Blake missed the critical window for treatment. The spinal damage… is permanent.”
