Keeping my expression neutral, I said to Desmond, “Shouldn’t you at least ask Helena what time the miscarriage happened before you jump to conclusions?”

Desmond snapped, “Why would I need to ask? She just told me. You pushed her.”

“You think Helena would lie to me? You must have already done it before I came looking for you. That’s why you wouldn’t tell me where she was.”

“Beatrice, you’re a damn good actress.”

He spoke through clenched teeth.

“You trust her that much?”
