Wrong Room, Right Mate Chapter 08

She really didn’t recognize him.

Three years had changed him—he was leaner, his skin darker, no longer the handsome young alpha he’d been back then.

Theodore looked up, glanced at Arlo, and said nothing. He just quietly moved closer to Nova, a silent protective gesture.

“You two…” Arlo’s throat went dry. “Are you really… together?”

Nova looked at Theodore and smiled softly. “You tell him.”

Theodore met her gaze, a faint smile tugging at his lips. He rested a gentle hand on her shoulder.

“Alpha Arlo,” Theodore said calmly. “Let me introduce you. This is my Luna, Nova. We’ve met before.”

Luna…

Arlo’s mind spun into chaos.

“No, that was a misunderstanding.” His voice was rough. “It was dark that night, I mixed up people—Nova never went willingly—”

“A misunderstanding?” Theodore raised an eyebrow. “Alpha Arlo, this isn’t some rogue kidnapping. This is an old ritual between packs. No one can take a girl unless she agrees to it herself.”

Arlo froze.

“If she didn’t want to come with me—” Theodore’s voice softened. “She would’ve beaten me so bad I’d be a mess.”

The words cut deep into Arlo’s chest like a knife.

A sharp, burning pain.

He remembered what Nova had once said.

“If any man I don’t like tries to touch me, I’ll never let him get away with it! I’ll kick, bite, scratch—fight like hell until he’s unrecognizable.”

“Alpha Arlo, if you’re interested in the artworks here, please feel free to look around,” Nova said politely. “If not, please don’t block the path for other guests.”

With that, she turned to leave.

“Nova.” His voice shook. “Listen to me—”

“Listen to what?” Her tone was flat and unemotional. “Listen to you explain all those forged bond documents? Listen to you justify why you swapped brides on my claiming night, just so you wouldn’t make delicate little Sloane suffer?”

Arlo’s face went deathly pale.

“You… you heard all that?”

Theodore stepped between the two of them—

“Arlo, stop harassing my mate.”

“Theodore!” Arlo shouted, “She’s my mate!”

“Save that sappy act! You only wanted to take Sloane back then!”

Theodore said so coldly.
