Abandoned by My Four Dons: The Mafia Princess’s Revenge Chapter 04

“Nina, I know you blame me. The medicine, the baby. And I know you’re jealous that I got a healthy heart and you didn’t. But…”

Her voice cracked and she burst into tears, choking on every word.

“I’ve waited so long to dance again. So long. And you dropped that on purpose just to make me fall…”

Alessio was already kneeling beside her, checking her leg, his thumb brushing gently over the red scrape on her calf.

Matteo’s face was dark with fury. A vein pulsed hard at his temple.

“Nina! Is this who we raised you to be? When did you get this cruel?”

The other three stared me down, furious and baffled, like they didn’t recognize me.

Every word landed like another knife in my chest. My voice came out hollow.

“I… I didn’t! That piece came loose yesterday…”

“Still making excuses! We spoiled you, and this is what you turned into!”

Matteo’s jaw locked. His large frame lunged forward, his hand snapping up to grab me by the throat.

The grip never landed.

Rafe caught his wrist.

“Matteo, she’s been through hell. Just give her time.”

Dario stepped in. “Let it go. Didn’t Gianna want to try that new dessert place? Let’s take her out and celebrate her getting discharged.”

Then he looked at me, and every trace of warmth left his face.

“You stay home and think about what you’ve done.”

Rafe started to say he’d stay with me, but Gianna ran up and grabbed his hand, right in front of me, swinging it like a kid begging for candy.

“Come with us, Rafe! You promised. If I was good about the surgery, you’d take me out to eat. Remember?”

Rafe’s expression tightened.

“I’ll stay here with Nina… she…”

My eyes dropped to their hands, fingers laced together like it was the most natural thing in the world. My voice came out scraped raw.

“If Gianna wants you there, go.”

Rafe brushed the hair from my face.

“Baby, just hang tight, okay? I’ll bring you back some clam chowder, the kind you love.”

I fell asleep waiting. When I woke at three in the morning, his side of the bed was still cold.

Rafe never came home.

The villa was dark, every room except Gianna’s.

The door wasn’t shut all the way. The second I got close, I heard her, breathy, whimpering, making sounds that had nothing to do with crying.

Rafe’s voice came through low and rough.

“Easy, baby… we need to stop. You just got out of surgery…”

Gianna’s voice turned pleading, half-sobbing.

“My heart’s fixed now. So when are you going to leave her? We belong together, Rafe. You were meant to be mine.”

When Rafe answered, his voice was soft, tender in a way I hadn’t heard in months.

“You know you’re the one I love. But Nina saved my life. I can’t just throw her away. And if your body starts rejecting the heart… we still need her blood.”

“Rafe…”

Every word was a bucket of ice water, soaking through me from head to toe until I couldn’t feel my own hands.

I pressed my back against the wall, eyes shut, phone shaking in my grip.

I stayed there all night. Listening to the moaning, the panting, the whispered promises that were never meant for me.

The next morning, Alessio, Matteo, and Dario found me still there, slumped against Gianna’s door.

“Nina, why are you here?”

I didn’t answer. I didn’t even look at them.

Then I reached back, grabbed the handle, and shoved Gianna’s door wide open.
