We were in the back of the car.

I straddled Soren Shaw’s lap, tangled up with him.

My whole frame blazed as if engulfed in fire, a thousand prickling ants skittering beneath my skin.

Only when I was pressed against him, cheek to cheek, did I feel any relief.

It wasn’t nearly enough.

Every fiber of my being ached, screaming out for more of him.

I took the lead, seizing his lips and drawing them hard against mine.

Soren’s breathing went ragged.

Panting, he helped me rebutton the shirt I’d already undone.

“Mila, we can’t…”

But I couldn’t hear a word.

By the time we made it home, still tangled together, Soren turned his head away from my kiss.

“Yes. Right now.”

“Get a doctor to my place. Now.”

He hung up and dragged me straight to the bathroom.

I thought he’d finally lost control.

Instead, he put me in the tub and ran cold water.

Grabbing his tie, Soren wound it around my wrists, loop after loop.

“Behave. The doctor’s coming.”

Ice and fire warred inside me.

My lower lip trembled.

I felt utterly humiliated.

Was he… rejecting me?

I don’t know where I found the courage.

I grabbed Soren’s neck and bit down on his soft lower lip.

His whole body jerked.

When he spoke again, his voice was wrecked.

“Mila, just hold on a little longer, okay?”

“I don’t know what adverse reactions this drug might trigger. I can’t risk your body. Not for anything.”

Something frayed completely inside my mind.

Darkness swallowed my vision whole. I blacked out instantly.
