He Pretended To Prepare An Elaborate Luna Ceremony But Secretly Marked Another Omega Chapter 02

Gabriel’s expression hardened for a split second, but he quickly recovered his composure.

“I must have mixed it up. I’ve been so busy handling negotiations with the other Alphas lately, I can barely think straight.”

He walked over and draped my cashmere coat over my shoulders.

“Let’s go to that restaurant from last time. Come on, my Luna.”

I looked at him in the mirror and flashed a bright smile.

“Sure.”

I put on my shoes and walked out of the dressing room ahead of him.

The ride was dead silent.

Gabriel steered with one hand, his other hand habitually reaching out to hold mine.

I pretended to look out the window, dodging his touch.

His hand caught nothing but air. He paused for a moment before returning it to the steering wheel.

The car’s Bluetooth display suddenly lit up.

An unsaved number flashed on the dashboard.

Gabriel glanced at it and immediately declined the call.

“Why didn’t you answer?”

I watched the city lights blur past, feigning confusion.

“Oh, just a spam call,” he said without batting an eye.

The words had barely left his mouth when a text notification rang out sharply.

He quickly turned off the screen, but I still caught the first half of the message on the lock screen.

Honey, did you get the cinnamon rolls?

The car ground to a halt at a red light.

Gabriel picked up his phone and casually sent a voice note.

“I’m driving. Let’s talk later.”

His tone was cold and distant, as if he were assigning a task to a subordinate.

After sending it, he tossed the phone face down into the console.

“They have no manners, blowing up my phone on a Saturday.”

He turned to face me, reaching out to tuck a stray lock of hair behind my ear.

“Once the ceremony is official, I’ll hand off some of the pack duties so I can spend more time with you.”

“Okay.”

I turned back around, calmly watching the countdown on the red light ahead.

He seemed slightly bothered by my cold reaction.

“Why have you been so down all day? Don’t like the dress?”

“No, I love it.”

“Is the ring too small? I’ll have the Beta bring over a few more styles tomorrow for you to choose from.”

“No need. That one is fine.”

The light turned green, and the car merged back into traffic.

We arrived at the high-end French restaurant.

Gabriel handed me the menu while he kept his head down, staring at his phone.

A subconscious smile crept onto his face.

“Gabriel, what are you looking at that’s making you so happy?”

I closed the menu.

He immediately locked his screen and set the phone aside.

“Nothing.”

He looked up, his eyes instantly shifting back to that intense, devoted gaze.

The waiter served the food.

Gabriel picked up a piece of seared foie gras, spread some caviar over it, and placed it on my plate.

“Try it. It’s been a while since you’ve enjoyed a nice dinner out.”

I stared silently at the caviar-covered dish.

It took a long moment before I finally spoke. “Gabriel, I don’t eat caviar.”

His hands, currently holding his silverware, froze yet again.

“I’m sorry, I…”

“It’s fine,” I interrupted.

I picked up my fork and moved the foie gras to the side plate.

“You really have been too tired lately. You can’t even remember what I eat.”

Gabriel looked at the discarded food, his brow furrowing slightly.

“Flora, why are you being so hostile today?”

“Am I?” I looked up at him, pure innocence in my eyes.

He patted the back of my hand to soothe me. “Once this busy streak is over, I’ll take you to Wolf Creek for a vacation.”

I took a sip of my red wine. “I don’t want to go.”

Gabriel sighed, setting his fork and knife down.

“Flora, we’re about to be mates. If you’re upset, just tell me. Don’t play these games with me, okay?”

“I’m not upset.” I locked eyes with him, staring into his dark irises.

“I just think that once foie gras is covered in caviar, it gets ruined by a fishy smell I despise.”

Gabriel stared at me for a few seconds, seemingly convinced that I didn’t actually have a reason to be angry.

He picked up his silverware again.

“Fine. I’ll order you something else.”

After dinner, I stood by the register waiting for him to pay.

As he pulled his wallet from his inside suit pocket, two pink movie ticket stubs accidentally slipped out.

They fluttered down, landing right at my feet.

The sound of the paper hitting the floor was incredibly faint.

The anxious gulp he took was just as quiet.

But I caught both perfectly.
