Bonded to the Wrong Alpha Chapter 09

Bonded to the Wrong Alpha Chapter 09

His words spilled out in fragments, like a damn giving way.

I listened with a blank face “The pup was born.”

He looked at me, his eyes pleading. “A female. I finally had a chance to come find you.”

“Elara, can you forgive me?”

Silence filled the hallway.

I looked at him for a long time, then spoke.

“Are you done?”

He froze.

My voice was calm. “You’ve told me how much you’ve suffered this past year.”

“Kyle, you’re still blaming everyone else. Why can’t you see your own mistakes?”

His expression shifted. He mumbled, “If you can forgive Serena, then why not me?”

I looked at him and almost laughed.

“Did I ever say I forgave her?”

In the days that followed, Kyle started lingering around my pack’s borders, watching me.

He saw me calm and composed during patrols. He saw me sharp and efficient in drills.

He saw me walking alongside Silas, relaxed, wearing a smile he’d never seen on me before.

One day, sitting on a bench across the street, a dream he’d once had came flooding back to him.

In the dream, after the ceremony, he and Elara had mated. She’d stayed at the den, keeping house, while he’d struggled outside.

Serena had lived next door. She’d been afraid Elara’s pups would steal affection from her own, and she’d schemed again and again. The pups had died, one by one.

He’d turned a blind eye, figuring Elara would never leave.

Then Elara had fallen ill. One night, she’d jumped from the window.

By the time he’d gotten there, she was gone.

Soon after, the pack’s finances had collapsed. Serena had cleaned out their savings, leaving him with the Chapter 9

He bought his mistress cake. He never bought b

pups and á mountain of debt.

He woke up drenched in cold sweat.

Now the blurry figure of the woman from his dream overlapped with the radiant Elara standing before him.

His eyes stung. He rose and turned away.

He finally understood-he didn’t deserve her.

Back on his own territory, the first thing Kyle did was ask the elders to sever his bond with Serena.

Serena cried and raged, threatened to hurt the pup, threatened to expose pack secrets.

But this time, Kyle didn’t back down.

After the bond was cut, Serena reported him to the tax authorities for falsified ledgers. The auditors came, and the pack’s fortunes took a nosedive.

Serena was sent to the most remote care facility in the territory.

As for my mother…

For years, she’d searched for me frantically. When her calls went unanswered, she turned to Serena.

Serena laughed coldly and told her it was she who’d driven me away-why pretend to be a loving mother now?

Mother argued it had all been for Serena’s sake. “Mm,” Serena replied, bored.

“I never asked you to. You were the one groveling.”
