Bonded to the Wrong Alpha Chapter 02

I stared at the glowing screen, cold seeping into my bones. I was the spare.

We’d planned this trip for ages—the three of us, getting away together for our honeymoon.

Serena had suggested bringing my mother along. Mother had been thrilled and took over all the arrangements.

My parents had split when I was still a pup. Serena was my neighbor. Ever since we came of age, she’d spent most of her time in my den.

The three of us were close. Or so I’d thought.

My phone buzzed again. Kyle’s voice came through, warm and familiar. “Why didn’t you wait for me? At least let me walk you back.”

It was the same voice that had sworn itself to me under the full moon during our first ceremony.

For four years in the training grounds, he’d watched my back. When a rogue stalked me, he’d taken a claw strike to the ribs for me Even when we were cold and starving, he never missed a single anniversary.

He used to flash that arrogant grin, fangs bared. “Protecting my mate is what I do.”

I was nineteen when I introduced Kyle to Serena. They’d hated each other on sight.

Kyle had snarled, “She wants to steal my moon goddess’s love? Not a chance.”

Serena had mocked him to his face, asking me where I’d dug up such a primitive brute.

They were the two most important people in my life. It never crossed my mind that they’d betray me.

The next morning, I lugged my bags out of the barracks and nearly ran into Serena coming downstairs.

She was fuming that Kyle had ditched her at the border and driven off without her.

I said nothing. Downstairs, Kyle waited by his truck. Serena climbed into the back without a word, saying she needed to rest.

As we drove, a few young wolves passed by and pointed at me. “Did you hear those sounds from the eastern woods last night? Sounded like two wolves going at it. Loud enough to wake the dead.”

Kyle was loading my luggage into the bed. I saw his hand freeze mid-motion.

In the truck, I pretended to check my reflection in the side mirror. I watched Kyle hand me water, his eyes flicking to the rearview mirror, meeting Serena’s gaze.

She stuck her tongue out at him. The corner of his mouth curled into a smirk.

Back at the den, Mother brought me a warm glass of milk before bed. Her eyes lingered on my face a beat too long.

“You’ve been tired lately. Drink this and get some rest.”

I smiled. “Thank you, Mother.”

Back in my study, the message flashed through my mind. My hand hovered over the glass.

I poured every drop onto the succulent on my windowsill, then covered the damp soil with fresh dirt.

Mother had raised me alone. She’d given me everything.

But what had happened over the past two days, and that message from the future—it made me question all of it.

I lay down and pretended to sleep.

Time passed. The door creaked open. Soft footsteps approached my mat, paused, then retreated.

Then came low voices from the main room.

I crept to the door and pressed my ear to the wood.

“That’s enough,” Serena whispered. “Is she asleep?”

“Drank it all. Out cold,” Mother’s voice came flat and hollow.

“Keep it down. Don’t wake her.”

My heart clenched.

Kyle’s voice followed, hesitant. “Will she get hurt? Isn’t this too risky?”

‘But you promised we’d celebrate properly,’ Serena whimpered. ‘You said you owed me.’

“But…” Kyle sighed.

Serena cut him off. “Think about it, Kyle. With her around, we won’t even get a proper honeymoon.”
