The moment I heard his voice, I knew he had come just to provoke me.

Isabelle immediately chimed in.

“Well, look who it is. Our hero.”

“How have you been, getting roasted online? Haven’t lost your mind yet?”

I ignored them. I only glanced at their clasped hands, took out my phone, and snapped a photo.

Gianni’s expression changed. He lunged for it.

“Maelle, what the hell is wrong with you?”

“If that photo gets out, I’ll be investigated for improper conduct.”

“Can you take responsibility for that?”

I put my phone back in my pocket and smiled.

“Why should I? That’s your problem.”

“If you’re that scared, just get a divorce.”

Gianni’s eyes widened.

“What did you say? You want a divorce?”

“Is your brain damaged? You’re taking things this far over something so small?”

“Are you trying to use this to get me back?”

“And after you leave me, do you really think you can get by?”

I laughed out loud.

Before we were married, I was one of the top graduates from the police academy.

I spent two years in Major Crimes and closed plenty of major cases.

By all rights, I should have been promoted long ago.

I was the one who wrote the recommendation that got Gianni into the most elite SWAT team.

I also voluntarily gave up my own promotion to stay on the front line with him.

If I hadn’t been helping him all this time, I would have climbed much higher than I had.

And now he was actually saying I couldn’t survive without him.
