But he wouldn’t stop.

He started leaving the flowers at the main entrance to the office building before anyone arrived.

I honestly couldn’t fathom where he found the patience.

Finally, one morning, I couldn’t take it anymore. I went to work an hour early.

Sure enough, when I arrived, I saw Matteo placing another bouquet by the doors.

I strode over, snatched the flowers from the ground, and slammed them straight into his chest.

“Are you finished?”

“Do you actually think harassing me every day is romantic?”

He stumbled back, fumbling to catch the falling flowers.

“I just want you to be happy.”

“Seeing you makes me miserable. How many times do I have to say it before you get it through your head?”

I didn’t hold back.

Matteo just stood there, head bowed, silent.

I thought that would be the end of it, that he would finally go back to New York.

But then he somehow managed to get in touch with a few of my colleagues, the ones I was friendliest with, and convinced them to help him.

The next thing I knew, I was walking onto a lawn in the Public Garden, and I froze.

It was the weekend. The moment I saw Matteo, my good mood evaporated.
