Caleb seemed to have decided to go all in.

He sat on the floor, face bloody, and looked at Kyle with scorn.

“When we started school, I asked when you and your girlfriend got together. If I remember right, she was still with someone else when you started liking her, wasn’t she? How’d you get your position? Why can’t I?”

He turned to me, his gaze calm.

“Seven years ago, I stayed at my cousin’s house for a month. Brianna, we — I — saw you a long time ago. Remember? My cousin’s name was Leo Grant.”

I was stunned.

Leo Grant was my ex.

We’d been together through all of high school.

Now that he mentioned it, I did remember something.

When I visited Leo’s house, he’d casually said his cousin was staying on the second floor, but he was sick and rarely came out.

Before I left, I’d glanced up at the second floor.

I only caught the edge of black fabric, gone in an instant.

I knew someone was there, but I never met him.

So that was Caleb.

“When I saw Kyle’s photos, I knew it was you. When I saw the photos Janice sent, I knew it was you too.”

He laughed at himself.

“I was so happy. I thought you’d gotten bored of Kyle and wanted some excitement. Turns out I was the one being played.”

He admitted it.

He’d had ulterior motives from the start.

Picking the same flight as Kyle wasn’t a coincidence.

He wanted to see her.

Wanted to provoke Kyle.

“Brianna, after all these years, I still really like —”

Kyle’s fist connected again.

The room was a disaster.

Nobody could pull them apart this time.
