Everyone froze and slowly turned to the altar.

On the cross, my body was like porcelain shattered from within, a web of ashen cracks spreading across

my skin.

My fingertips were already turning to dust, blowing away in the cold draft of the crypt.

The Scarlet Judgment had taken my very last drop of blood.

I was disappearing.

“No… no…”

Valerius dropped Tania instantly. She crashed to the floor, but he didn’t care.

In a flash of desperate speed, he was at the cross, his bare hands reaching for the pure silver chains.

The burning silver instantly seared his flesh to the bone. The smell of burning skin filled the air.

But he felt nothing.

He ripped the chains apart with his bare hands, letting the lethal silver poison flood his veins.

“Evelyn… Evelyn… please… look at me…”

He carefully pulled me down from the cross.

I weighed almost nothing now, ready to fade away at any second.

Julian and Cassian scrambled up the altar.

Three proud, untouchable men, now brought to their knees in the dust.

“Don’t die… please don’t die…” Julian fell to his knees beside me. The proud Enforcer sobbed openly. “I

was wrong… I was blind… Please, little sister, forgive me…”

Cassian dropped to his knees too, his whole body shaking. “Evelyn… what have I done…”

I opened my eyes weakly. My vision was so blurred I could barely see their faces.

But I could feel their despair.

I could hear their tears.

“Too late,” I whispered softly. “It’s too late…”

“No!” Valerius shook his head wildly. “It’s not! I can save you!”

Without hesitation, he bit his own wrist and pressed the bleeding wound against my cracked lips

“Drink! Please, drink it!”

But I kept my lips tightly shut.

Julian slashed his own throat. Blood flowed like a stream.

“Sister… drink my blood… you need blood… you need life…”

Cassian plunged his hand into his own chest, squeezing the blood from his heart.

“Take my life… take it all… just live…”

The blood of three men formed a crimson pool beneath me.

They cried. They begged. They tried to force their life essence into my body.

But no matter how much they bled, the blood just slipped away. None of it stayed.

“Why… why isn’t it working…” Valerius watched in absolute despair as his blood dripped from my chin.

Why can’t I save you…”

A single tear of blood slid from my hazy eyes.

Looking at these three broken men, a weak, cruel smile touched my lips.

“Your blood… it disgusts me.”

Valerius’s face went dead white. “Evelyn… you…”

“I waited five years for this,” I breathed, my voice a thread of sound. “To watch you drown in your guilt.

And now… I am satisfied.”

The last bit of heat left my body.

The ash spread up my arms. Soon, it would reach my heart.

And then, I would be erased from this world.

No more pain. No more betrayal.

“Goodbye, dear brother,” I looked at Julian.

“Goodbye, my former protector,” I looked at Cassian.

Finally, my eyes landed on Valerius.

The man I loved with my life. The man who pushed me to my death.

“Goodbye, my… fated mate.”

As the last of me began to turn to dust, Valerius tore a final, desperate drop of his Heart’s Blood from his

chest and let it fall upon mine.

An ancient light erupted between us.
