My Fiance Claimed to Be from a Parallel Universe to Sleep with My Bestie Chapter 06

After all, it was the eighteenth floor.

Even with a rescue airbag below, the dull pain shooting through my ankle nearly made me pass out.

Still, I got up.

I refused to let the paramedics put me on a stretcher.

Limping, I made my way toward the train station.

This city was tied to Marcus in every possible way.

Staying there even one second longer felt like it would kill me.

By the time I woke up in Seattle, I was already in a hospital.

My sister, Talia Lynn, was sitting by my side.

Even though we did not talk often, our bond was still blood-deep.

That was why, the moment I decided to leave Marcus, she was the first person I contacted.

“Nora, you’re finally awake.”

“Your phone has been blowing up.”

She shoved my phone toward me.

The moment Face ID unlocked it, I saw more than ninety-nine unread messages from Marcus.

Marcus: [Nora, where are you? I didn’t mean to lie to you. I can explain.]

Marcus: [You waited so long for that wedding. How could you cancel it?]

Marcus: [I know I was wrong. Even if you hate me, can you at least give me one chance to let you get back at me?]

Marcus: [Nora, I can’t live without you. I won’t survive this…]

The messages were painful to look at, so I turned away.

Talia asked me, “Do you want me to reply for you?”

I did not explain everything between Marcus and me.

I only said, “My ankle still hurts.”

The injuries on my body had not even faded.

The damage inside my heart ran far deeper.

Besides, if everything could be forgiven, then what had all my pain been?

Had I deserved it?

“Block him for me,” I added.

Meanwhile, Marcus stared at his screen as his latest messages no longer showed as delivered.

A massive wave of panic surged through him.

Before this, even during our worst fight, when I ignored him for an entire month, he had never blocked me.

Because I had once told him that after I fell in love with him, I had two hearts.

If either heart stopped beating, I would not be able to live.

But now, I had torn out the heart that belonged to him with my own hands.

He finally realized that this time, I truly did not want him anymore.

His chest suddenly felt hollow, aching so badly he could barely breathe.

Just then, Celeste came to find him again.

“Marcus, the employees are making trouble. They’re filing complaints with the labor board and threatening to sue me.”

“You’ll fix this for me, won’t you?”

Marcus looked at her.

For some reason, he suddenly thought of me at all those client dinners, raising glass after glass on his behalf, and at all those negotiating tables, standing in front of him again and again, fighting battles he should have fought himself.

He seemed to finally understand the saying that loving someone deeply meant feeling their pain as your own.

But why did he only understand it after he had lost me?

When he thought of how everything had become like this because of Celeste, Marcus shook off her hand for the first time.

“You made this mess. Clean it up yourself.”

“If you can’t handle it, I have no problem taking legal action against you.”
