My Fiance Claimed to Be from a Parallel Universe to Sleep with My Bestie Chapter 05

In the end, I still did not manage to leave the company.

After Celeste used people up and threw them aside, many employees lost their income.

One employee broke down and rushed onto the rooftop.

“I’ve been with this company for five or six years, and now you fire me just like that? No severance, and you still want to make me take the fall and pay the company hundreds of thousands in damages, or else you’ll have me charged and sent to prison?”

“Do you people have any humanity left? Are you trying to drive me to my death?”

“Then we can all die together!”

The employee lost control.

He took Celeste hostage.

Just as he was about to shove Celeste off the roof, Marcus suddenly shouted, “Nora was the one in charge of this project before! Don’t hurt someone innocent!”

In the brief moment when the employee froze, Marcus rushed forward, kicked him away, and saved Celeste.

But as the employee fell, he grabbed my arm.

“Nora!”

By the time I realized what had happened, my entire body was dangling over the edge of the roof.

Marcus had caught my hand.

The cold wind howling past my ears tore open the nightmare of my childhood all over again.

When I was five, my family’s company went bankrupt.

Debt collectors drove my father to the edge.

He dragged me onto the roof with him, planning to jump.

He said, “Living will only hurt. You might as well come with me.”

“Your sister is still little. She doesn’t understand anything, so let her keep living.”

But my life was mine.

What gave him the right to decide whether I lived or died?

The moment my father pushed me off the roof, it was Marcus, still only a boy back then, who used every bit of strength he had to grab my hand.

Even after his wrist dislocated and his arm was scraped bloody, he still pulled me up inch by inch.

He took off his jacket and wrapped it around me.

His arm had no strength left, so he pressed his forehead against mine.

Word by word, he told me, “Don’t be scared. I’m here. From now on, I’ll protect you.”

Now, as the same scene unfolded again, I suddenly forgot everything.

I even thought that I could let the ninety-eight times before this go.

But then Celeste grabbed his arm.

Her whole body clung to him.

“Marcus, I’m so scared. Will you hold me?”

Marcus looked at me as I swayed in the wind, then looked down at Celeste trembling in his arms.

In the end, what he said to me was, “There’s a rescue airbag below. You’ll be fine.”

“But Celeste can’t handle this. She’s too fragile. I can’t let her be traumatized too.”

So he had never forgotten that I carried deep trauma too.

He had just never chosen me without hesitation.

Marcus loosened his grip on my hand, finger by finger.

“Wait for me down there. I’ll come find you.”

The moment he let go of me and turned to embrace Celeste, a tear slipped from the corner of my eye.

“Marcus, this is the ninety-ninth time.”

“From now on, you don’t have to keep pretending you didn’t know.”

I saw his pupils contract sharply.

His entire body went rigid.

So I had known the truth all along.

And he finally remembered what those ninety-nine times meant.

But my body had already vanished from his sight.
