Betrayed On My Wedding Eve Chapter 38

Betrayed On My Wedding Eve Chapter 38

A few days later, his parents reached out to me.

Brendan had disappeared.

I found out later: he’d come home after our call and torn the house apart.

He said it was all their fault. If they hadn’t driven Julian out, Julian wouldn’t have come to Congo. Wouldn’t have met me. Wouldn’t have died. And Brendan wouldn’t have spent years suffocating, convinced he was in love with Jade, and losing me.

Every piece of it connected.

No solution.

He quit his job at the hospital. Vanished.

His parents were in pieces. Weeping.

“How can any of this be our fault? We wanted what was best for our son. Is that wrong? Julian refused to listen, he ran off to that place, and now he’s dead. Isn’t that on him? And now Brendan leaves too, over this? After everything we’ve done as parents?”

I ran out of patience.

I hung up.

I ended up back in the forest.

Found a tree and sat down.

Wrapped my arms around my knees.

Julian had only mentioned it to me once. But I could imagine what it must have been like growing up in that house.

His MSF emergency contact, at first, was his work partner.

Later, it became me.

He didn’t want his family to know if anything happened to him.

And yet. From that broken home, he became someone gentle and generous and selfless.

Thinking about it made me ache.
