Betrayed On My Wedding Eve Chapter 32

When I woke up, I could smell antiseptic.

I was back home. A hospital.

The doctor said I’d been in the ICU for two weeks.

Internal bruising. Gunshot to the shoulder.

But no ruptured spleen. No through wound. Blood loss manageable.

The peacekeeping force had found me in time.

I knew why.

Julian had stepped in front of me twice.

He saved my life.

I contacted every person I could reach. Asking about him.

Everyone said the same thing. Too chaotic at the scene. No body recovered. MSF had suspended operations in North Kivu.

There was no one left to look.

Just like that, Julian was gone.

I screamed myself awake every night. Panic attacks. His face in the moments before he died, playing on a loop.

PTSD. The diagnosis was clear.

I started medication. Therapy. I drank too much.

None of it worked.

Everyone told me to build a new life. Move forward. Don’t stay stuck in the past.

But how?

He died for me.

That thought lived in my chest permanently.

I hated being alive. Hated that it wasn’t me instead.

I stood on the roof more than once. Thought about following him.

But I always pulled myself back.

This life. He gave everything to save it.

I lost the right to give it up a long time ago.
