Betrayed On My Wedding Eve Chapter 31

I turned. Started moving.

A shot.

Something slammed into my shoulder from behind.

The force knocked me flat.

Blinding pain. I couldn’t breathe.

I’d been hit.

I turned my head in terror.

Julian had fallen on top of me.

His chest. A through-and-through wound. His coat already soaked completely red. Blood coming from his mouth.

My mind went white.

I ignored my shoulder and turned over.

“Julian!

“Julian!”

I pressed on the wound with both hands. Useless.

“Stop the bleeding. First you have to stop the bleeding—”

He reached up. Took my hands.

Such a small gesture. It seemed to cost him everything.

He said, barely:

“I’m sorry.

“I love you.

“Next time. Be my person again.”

His eyes.

So much in them. Reluctance. Tenderness. And then, finally, peace.

The light went out.

His hands fell.

I sat there.

Then the shock hit all at once.

I vomited blood.

My vision blurred. Cold sweat everywhere.

The adrenaline was fading. My shoulder screamed.

I reached for him.

“Julian…”

And went dark.
