Betrayed On My Wedding Eve Chapter 09

The color drained from her face.

Everyone looked back and forth between us, confused.

Jade stood up, voice loud, hands unsteady.

“She grew up with nothing. No parents, no connections. There’s no way she’s been to those places.”

“She’s lying!”

I rested my chin in my hand.

“Then show everyone your photos. You traveled all that way. Must have taken a few.”

“I… I…”

“Don’t have any?”

She turned to Brendan, almost frantic.

“Brendan! What is wrong with your fiancée! This is supposed to be my welcome-back dinner! How are you letting her treat me like this! Fine, if I’m not wanted here, I’ll just go!”

She wiped her eyes and bolted.

The table erupted.

People shoved Brendan. “Go after her! It’s late, she can’t just run off!”

He went dark. Shot me one hard look. And walked out fast.

The others filed out after him.

One of them dropped his voice as he passed.

“How does she have the nerve to go after Jade like that? Doesn’t she know she’s the one who took what wasn’t hers?”

“Jealous. Jade’s gorgeous and worldly. What does she have?”

“She harassed Jade, and now it’s her own fiancé who has to go calm her down. Pathetic.”

Their voices trailed away.

The private room was empty. Just me.

I let out a quiet breath. Poured myself another shot. Drank it.
