Perfect Wife No More: I Unleashed Hell Chapter 03

Perfect Wife No More: I Unleashed Hell Chapter 03 I Don’t Love You
At the dinner party, Vivian took the seat that was supposed to be Mrs. Harrington’s—mine.
I sat quietly in the corner, watching Arthur carefully peel shrimp and pick out fish bones for her.
Arthur had once been good to me, too.
If I casually said I wanted cake from the south side of the city, he’d drive halfway across the city to get it.
Because I was scared of the dark, he used to cover my ears and hold me tight through every stormy night.
Once, under a sky full of fireworks, he’d gone down on one knee, holding a diamond ring, and proposed, “Evelyn, I swear I’ll never let you down. Not in this lifetime.”
I felt dazed.
I remembered every detail of being with Arthur, yet I couldn’t feel that spark anymore.
Maybe the system was right—only by stripping away love could I become a perfect partner.
I never found the right moment to bring up the divorce before the dinner ended.
I planned to talk about it later, but then I learned Michelle wanted them to stay overnight here.
I said goodbye politely. Just as I was about to leave alone, Arthur suddenly called out to me, “Evelyn!”
I turned back, confused.
Arthur lowered his gaze, his expression unreadable.
He looked like he wanted to say more, but in the end, he only said flatly, “Be careful on your way.”
I was surprised. For once, I gave him a genuine smile.
As I turned away, I heard Vivian calling him back in a soft, spoiled tone.
……
“Evelyn, what the hell are you trying to do?!” Late at night, I was jolted awake by Arthur’s rage.
He kicked the door open and yanked me out of bed. “I thought you’d changed. Turns out you’re still just as vicious!”
I saw the disgust in his eyes and had no idea what was going on.
“What happened?” I asked.
Arthur threw a bottle of perfume at my feet. Glass shattered everywhere.
He said, “You knew Vivian was pregnant, and you still gave her such a strong perfume!
“You’re still as jealous as ever!”
The sharp scent filled the room, burning my throat and making it hard to breathe.
I instinctively covered my mouth and nose.
Arthur knew my respiratory system had always been weak.
If he thought about it for even a second, he’d remember I never wore perfume.
Let alone give something like this as a gift.
But the system alert flashed. “Perfect Partner Rule—Never contradict your husband.”
So I gave up explaining.
I struggled to my feet and obediently knelt on the glass-covered floor.
Blood soaked into my nightdress, mixing with the heavy perfume scent. It was overwhelming.
I apologized softly, “Arthur, I was wrong.
“I can kneel and apologize to Miss Garrison, too. Please don’t be angry, okay?”
The response I expected never came.
Instead, Arthur’s voice trembled. “Are you out of your mind?
“Evelyn, why aren’t you explaining yourself?!”
I looked up at him, puzzled. “If I explained, would you believe me?”
He froze.
No. He wouldn’t.
I’d explained myself countless times before. He never once believed me.
Arthur stared at me in silence.
The anger and confusion in his eyes slowly turned into something like panic.
He couldn’t understand why I’d suddenly become so obedient.
Nor why the obedience he once demanded now felt unbearable to look at.
And he couldn’t understand why he could no longer feel my love.
He suddenly grabbed my shoulders and called my name carefully, “Evelyn…”
I smiled and replied gently, “I’m here.”
The perfect curve of my smile and my calm, empty eyes only made his pain worse.
A terrifying thought struck him.
So terrifying that tears slipped down without him noticing.
He hugged me tightly, as if trying to crush me into his bones.
I heard his suppressed sobs.
And I heard him ask through his choking voice, “Evelyn… do you love me?”
I remembered how much he used to hate it when I said I loved him.
So I put on the most polite, most perfect smile and answered slowly, “Of course. Just like you wanted—I don’t love you.”
