I Was Tortured and Buried Alive under the Tower, So I Triggered Nightmares to Confess Chapter 08

Marnie let out a shrill scream as her body flew backward, slamming into a stone pillar beside the Fortitude Spire. A mouthful of blood spilled from her lips.

None of the onlookers moved to help her. Everyone stepped back, afraid of being tainted by her evil.

Clutching her throbbing chest, she stared at Rowan in stunned disbelief.

For three years, she had stood faithfully by his side, supporting him as he rebuilt his empire and reached new heights of success.

He had softened to her gentle care, and slowly let her into his heart. They had shared genuinely happy days once.

Rowan doted on her, giving her an unlimited supplementary credit card so she might live without want.

After Beau was born, he spoiled her beyond measure. Everyone in the architecture circle knew Marnie was Rowan’s beloved wife.

Now all warmth had vanished from his eyes, replaced only by revulsion and hatred.

“Rowan… you struck me?” Her voice trembled, unable to process what had happened.

“I gave you every piece of my heart these three years. I bore you Beau, I—”

“Shut up!”

A bitter smile curled Rowan’s mouth.

“You are capable of any wickedness. Judging by your flirtatious history with Jax, I even question whether Beau is truly my son. Sharing my bed for three years with a venomous snake like you fills me with unbridled disgust.”

The crowd swelled larger by the minute. Reporters rushed to the scene, former fans who once adored Marnie, and onlookers drawn by the commotion.

Every phone was raised, recording every second.

“Oh my gosh—this is the so-called Millfield City goddess Marnie? How could someone commit such vicious acts… Is she even human?”

“My heart aches for Mr. Mercer. He lived in ignorance for three years, sharing a bed with the woman who murdered his lover.”

“Wait, the robed mercenary in the vision—could such a dangerous man still be hiding in our city? This is terrifying. We have to arrest him at once!”

Waves of furious chatter crashed over Marnie, draining all color from her face. She scrambled to her feet to flee, but the crowd blocked every exit.

“Move aside! All of you, get out of my way!” She shrieked hysterically, but no one budged. Someone deliberately stuck out a foot to trip her. She stumbled and crashed face-first into the dirt.

Muffled snickers rippled through the crowd, and a few people spat on her secretly.

Rowan paid her no more mind. He turned and knelt once more before Elias, slamming his forehead hard against the stone ground in utter devotion.

“Sir Medium, I beg you… let me see Seren one more time. I know you possess the power to make it happen.”

His voice was raw and hoarse, and he seemed to age decades in a single night, his spirit shattered.

“I know I am worthless, foolish. I betrayed her trust. I do not deserve to be her husband, nor the father of our child.”

“But I crave one final meeting, to apologize with my own lips. Even if she refuses to forgive me, even if she wishes to take my life…”

Tears streamed unceasingly down his face, his words breaking into choked sobs.

Elias watched him and let out a long, weary sigh. First, he turned to calm the restless crowd.

“Rest assured, all who bring harm to this land will face retribution no matter how far they run. No matter how powerful that mercenary is, I will ensure he reaps what he has sown.”

“I have already broken his curses. The toxic spells will rebound upon him, and he will not live past three days.”

He then turned back to Rowan. “Do you think I would deny you a chance to see her?”

Elias shook his head and flicked his whisk toward the spot where the red candle had burned out. “The candle flame is extinguished. The threads binding past lives have been severed.”

“It is not that I refuse to aid you. The spirit’s life force was tied to that candle. Now that the flame is gone, her soul will not linger much longer…”
