Three months later.

I was sitting on Evander’s private jet, looking at a Wall Street Journal alert on my tablet. My voice was calm.

The headline was stark.

“Former Financial ‘Rising Star’ Sentenced to Five Years for Major Economic Crimes.”

“Co-defendant Chloe S. Sentenced to Three Years for Embezzlement and Evidence Tampering.”

Evander walked over with two glasses of champagne and handed one to me.

“There’s more.”

He sat down beside me.

“I heard they turned on each other in court. It was an ugly scene.”

“Dorian tried to pin all the embezzlement on Chloe, claiming total ignorance.”

“Chloe produced a recording of Dorian telling her how to cook the books.”

I took a sip of champagne.

It was crisp and cold, with a hint of sweetness.

I felt no pity for them.
