Matt and Kevin had already backed away, wanting no part of this.

No one dared to draw Evander’s fire.

Evander didn’t spare them a glance.

He pulled a check from the inner pocket of his suit, holding it between two fingers.

“Mr. Lombardi, I came here today to sign off on your South Harbor project.”

“But it seems you’re not a sound investment.”

With that, he let his fingers go.

The check, for a staggering sum, fluttered to the floor.

It landed perfectly, covering the ring I had thrown down moments before.

Dorian stared at the check, his eyes slowly turning red.

The South Harbor project was everything.

He had poured all his capital into it, even taking on high-interest private loans.

He had been counting on Evander’s investment.

Now, it was all gone.

“Mr. Hawthorne…”

Dorian’s voice was a raw croak.

“Personal matters are personal matters. The project itself is solid…”

“Is it?”

Evander didn’t even look at him. He turned to me.

“What do you think, Mrs. Hawthorne?”

I looked at Dorian’s devastated face.

At this point, I felt nothing.

“He isn’t worthy.”

Evander seemed pleased with my answer.

He took out his phone and made a call.

“Notify Legal. Withdraw all investment interest in the Lombardi Group.”

“And have someone look into their corporate taxes. If there are any irregularities, send them directly to the IRS.”

When Mrs. Lombardi heard that, her eyes rolled back in her head, and she collapsed.
