He Thought I Loved Him, I Only Loved His Face Chapter 19

After the party, Maya settled into the new company fast.

Her skills were undeniable. Even as a Creative Director brought in from outside, no one questioned it.

Project after project. Every client thrilled.

Her colleagues respected her. Some were flat-out impressed.

Nora, however, forced a week off on her. For her health.

Maya would’ve taken more projects. She genuinely loved this work.

But the boss mandated a break. She wasn’t going to complain. A few quiet days at home sounded fine.

She could finally do that prenatal checkup she’d scheduled.

Normally she’d be up at seven for work. Today, she slept until she woke naturally.

She stared at the unfamiliar ceiling. Still not fully used to it.

Every morning, that split second of disorientation.

She reached for her phone. Dead.

She plugged it in. It rang immediately.

Unknown number. She hesitated. Then answered.

Rowan’s hoarse voice came through.

“Maya. Can we meet?”

Every trace of sleep vanished.

She hadn’t expected him.

“Rowan. There’s nothing between us anymore.”

The words stabbed him.

He bristled.

“If this is about Piper, I can promise you—she’ll never appear in front of you again.”

“I know you’re still angry. But I’ve come to find you, haven’t I? You wanted to travel? I can go with you.”

The way he summarized everything between them so casually left her speechless.

“The divorce papers should’ve reached you. Stop bothering me. As for you and Piper, I don’t care.”

“If there’s nothing else, don’t call again.”

Her cold tone snapped something in him.

“Maya! You love me. You’ve always loved me. And now you’re carrying my child. Stop this.”

“I’m here now. I came for you. You’re coming back with me.”

The unhinged desperation in his voice made her chest tighten.

She gripped the phone. Paused.

She decided to tell him the truth.

“I was Caleb’s girlfriend. I got close to you because I wanted a child who looked like him.”

“Your personal life? I never cared.”

“When I proposed, it was just my plan. Not love. Later, I tried to accept this marriage. But you and Caleb are nothing alike.”

“After Piper came back, it was even clearer there was no reason to stay together.”

“I’m letting you go. Let me go too.”

“I left you all the assets. We each got what we wanted. Don’t contact me again.”
