On the Wedding Day, I Married the Groom’s Uncle Chapter 08

Beckett held me and the baby tighter. His eyes went black with murder.

“Ave. I swear to you. I will make the ones who hurt you and our child pay.”

“What you suffered today—I will make them suffer a hundred times worse.”

I held my baby for a day and a night. Finally, I accepted that he was never coming back.

Beckett and I cremated his body. We chose the most peaceful cemetery in Manhattan. The most beautiful view.

Jagger and Tatum were dragged in by security. Hands forced behind their backs. Heads shoved toward the grave.

One day. I almost didn’t recognize them.

Both of them were filthy. Hair matted. Faces swollen. Bruised. Cuts crisscrossed their arms, their torsos, their legs. Still oozing blood.

Beckett had ordered the whips. Dipped in pepper water. They were beaten until their skin split. Then thrown into a sewage pit overnight. The stench still clung to them.

Beckett placed a metal baseball bat in my hands. “Ave. Whatever you want to do to them. Do it. I’ll handle everything that comes after.”

I gripped the bat. Jagger’s legs buckled. He crumpled. Reached for the hem of my skirt.

“Avery. Please. Just let me live. I didn’t know. I swear I didn’t know you were carrying my uncle’s child…”

Yesterday I was on the ground. Begging them just like this. To spare me. To spare my baby.

Did they?

I swung the bat. It smashed into Jagger’s back. “Didn’t know? I told you. More than once. That the baby in my belly was Beckett Hamilton’s. Did you listen?”
