On the Wedding Day, I Married the Groom’s Uncle Chapter 02

I didn’t get to finish.

Jagger bent down, grabbed the chilled grape juice off the coffee table, and shoved it into my mouth. The glass. The shattered shards. Everything.

“You like this drink? Let me give you your fill.”

Ice-cold liquid flooded my mouth. Sharp glass. The taste of blood.

“Tatum and I spent three years out there broke and desperate. You’ve been in here living off that lump in your belly, scamming your way through this house.”

“Today I’m going to give you your fill.”

I choked. Couldn’t speak. The shards sliced my mouth open. Blood poured.

I tried to fight back. Tatum’s stiletto heel—red-soled, weapon-sharp—slammed down onto the back of my hand.

Pain tore through my hand. I couldn’t even scream.

Jagger forced every last drop down my throat. Then he spat on me. He wiped his hands and stood up.

Tatum shifted her stiletto. It moved over my swollen belly.

Terror seized me. I grabbed her ankle with both hands. Held on. Wouldn’t let her press down.

Beckett Hamilton was born infertile. This child was three years of seeing every specialist in the country. A miracle.

Tatum smiled down at me. “Avery. You look like a mama dog guarding her pups right now. Absolutely pathetic.”

Jagger stared at my stomach and frowned. “I’m already a joke to everyone. How am I supposed to show my face in Manhattan after this? Tatum, crush that bastard.”

I shook my head. Wild. Desperate. I spat out the debris and blood clogging my mouth. The words came out ragged. “The baby… in my belly… is Beckett Hamilton’s…”

Jagger froze. Then he burst out laughing.

“Avery. You don’t even bother to come up with a good lie. Everyone in Manhattan knows my uncle doesn’t touch women. And he can’t have kids.”

“Right now, I’m the only heir in this family. Why do you think Grandfather was so desperate for me to get married back then? He needed me to produce the next heir. Fast. To secure the future of the entire Hamilton Group.”

Tatum jumped in. “Jagger is the only heir. Sir froze his trust fund just to force him to come back and take over.”

“You’re hilarious. You got caught, and now you’re trying to smear the uncle.”

Jagger and Tatum had been gone for three years. Not a single phone call. Old Mr. Hamilton was truly done with him. That’s why he cut off the trust fund. That’s why he severed ties.

They were looking at me like rabid dogs. Nothing I said would get through. I couldn’t provoke them further. I had to protect my baby.

I tried again. “I’m not lying. The child is Beckett Hamilton’s.”

“If you don’t believe me, let me call Beckett. I’ll prove it.”

One hand stayed on my stomach. The other reached for my phone on the table.

If I could just reach Beckett, me and my baby were saved. He’d get here faster than anyone.

My fingers touched the phone. Jagger snatched it away and smashed it to the ground.

I stared at the shattered screen. My heart dropped.

Jagger grabbed my chin. “My uncle is the Ice Blade. Everyone in Manhattan is terrified of him. His moods shift on a dime.”

“If he finds out I can’t even handle something this small—that I let myself get fooled—he’ll think I’m useless. He won’t hand the company over to me.”

“That’s why you wanted to call him, isn’t it, Avery?”

I shook my head frantically. “No. I’m carrying—”

Before I could finish, Tatum drove the toe of her shoe into my stomach. “Jagger. Why are you wasting time talking to this slut? Let’s finish off that bastard right now. Then we can go tell Sir the good news.”

Pain ripped through my abdomen. I felt the baby thrashing inside me. A terror I’d never known flooded my veins.

I looked up at them. Begged. “Please. Let my child live.”

Tatum pulled out her phone and aimed it at me. “Get on your knees and bark twice. Then say ‘I’m nothing but a begging bitch. I don’t deserve to carry Hamilton blood.’ Do that, and I’ll spare your bastard.”
