No Longer the Alpha’s Guardian Chapter 08

No Longer the Alpha’s Guardian Chapter 08

Midnight Pack Hospital.

Elijah was sitting with Kelly while she got a full workup.

The cut on her face was the only injury. Otherwise, she was fine.

She cried like her world had ended. Elijah patted her patiently.

“It won’t scar. The doctor said so. Keep putting the ointment on, and it’ll heal.”

“I’m just scared, Elijah. Maybe we should call it off. I don’t know what she’ll do next. First she cuts my face—next time, who knows?”

“She won’t touch you again. I swear.”

“Really?” Kelly sniffled. “I don’t believe you. She’s always hovering at work, making me look bad. And I can’t live in that house anymore. I’m too scared.”

“Then I’ll fire her. You can have her job—HR Director. And I’ll make her move out of the house.”

“Really?”

She lit up and threw herself at him.

“You’re so good to me. I should thank you.”

Her little hands started unbuttoning his shirt. She pressed against his chest, whispered in his ear. “Elijah. I want you right now. What should

I do?”

“You little fiend. Even in the hospital?”

He started to lean down to kiss her. Then he saw her bandages.

And stopped.

Audrey’s face flashed through his mind. He wondered how she was.

Audrey cared most about her face. And he had carved two lines into it with his own hand.

He had the best doctors. He knew she wouldn’t scar. But her eyes…

Kelly waited with her eyes closed. Nothing happened.

She opened them. He was staring into space.

“Elijah? What are you thinking about?”

“Nothing. Give me a minute. I need to call home.”

He pushed her aside and reached for his phone.

Kelly saw right through him. She snatched the phone away, hiked up her skirt, and straddled his lap.

“You think about someone else when you’re with me? I don’t like that.”

She pressed her lips to his. Grabbed his hand and put it on her breast. “I don’t care. You’re going to give yourself to me today. Or I’ll be heartbroken. You promised we’d seal the bond. You promised you wouldn’t let me cry.”

But Elijah felt nothing.

Once, a single look from her, a single move, could make him lose all control. He would have taken her right there in the office.

After all, compared to Audrey, Kelly was adventurous and bold in bed.

But today—nothing.

And Kelly could tell. There was no change in him at all.

“What’s wrong? Elijah, don’t you want me anymore?”

Elijah looked at her, silent.

What was he supposed to say? That Audrey was all he could think about? That he was suddenly terrified she was upset, that she was truly disappointed in him?

In all these years, he’d never said a harsh word to her.

But now, for Kelly, he’d done everything he shouldn’t have.

Kelly bent down, ready to help him. “It’s fine. Let me help you…”

Elijah caught her hand. “Don’t.”

“Are you thinking about Audrey again?”

Kelly kissed him hard, took his hand, and pressed it to her breast. “I don’t care! I won’t let you think about anyone else. You have to give yourself to me today. Or I’ll be heartbroken. You promised we’d seal the bond. You promised you wouldn’t make me cry. Right?”

The softness. Her heat. Her insistence.

Elijah’s defenses finally crumbled.

He flipped her over, pinned her down, and took her again and again.

He forgot all about Audrey.
