Abandoned Wolf Pup A Teddy Bear Recorded All the Abandonment of His Dad Chapter 07

POV: Benjamin

I rushed home to the pack house.

The whole place was eerily empty.

Sammy’s tiny shoes were gone from the entryway.

No eye therapy chart stuck to the refrigerator door.

No child-sized toothbrush in the bathroom.

The block grave he’d built on the living room carpet had vanished too.

It was as if Madison and Sammy had never lived here at all.

An envelope rested on the desk. I tore it open to find a duplicate copy of the mate bond severance petition, records of unauthorized marital asset transfers, screenshots of my tampering with the hospital scheduling system, and audio from the emergency room hallway.

Beneath the paperwork lay Sammy’s little drawing book. Scrawled across the cover in crooked letters: [The Day Daddy Turned Into a Star.]

My fingers shook as I flipped to the first page.

[Daddy promised he’d stay for my surgery. Chloe was scared. Daddy flew away.]

Page two.

[Daddy gave my healer to Chloe. Mommy said I couldn’t cry. My eyes hurt too much.]

Page three.

[Daddy said I wasn’t that sick. I took my goggles off. The lights were so bright.]

The final page was filled with solid black. Tucked in the middle was one tiny drawn star, with

writing beside it:

[My eyes hurt. Daddy said to wait. I waited a long time. The star went out.]

I sank to my knees.

A bitter metallic tang of blood welled up in my throat. My inner wolf pressed its paws to its chest,

gasping for breath, overwhelmed by crushing agony surging forth as our mate bond began to fray

and unravel.

My phone rang. It was the hospital Peer Review Committee.

Dr. Vale, Mrs. Smith has submitted a formally identified complaint against you. You stand accused of unilaterally canceling your pup’s specialist consultation appointment, improperly tampering with the hospital scheduling system, diverting joint household medical funds, and committing severe ethical negligence in an emergency medical case. You are obligated to attend an official inquiry here this afternoon.

I squeezed my eyes shut.

Madison hadn’t stormed off in a rage. Every time she clammed up and stayed quiet, she was quietly building a paper trail to take me down. She chose not to formally reject me in person. She wasn’t just taking Sammy and stripping me of my parental rights—she intended to ruin my medical career

entirely.

That afternoon, I sat at the far end of the hospital conference room.

A surveillance clip from the emergency hallway played on the screen: me speaking to Madison, who

held Sammy in her arms.

“I’ll sort out Sammy’s treatment-it’s not like he’ll lose his sight in the next few minutes.”

On screen, Sammy’s small frame flinched.

I stared at the monitor, all color drained from my face.

Dr. Byrne addressed me. “Did you make that statement?”

I closed my eyes. “Yes.”

“Had you already reviewed the pup’s intraocular pressure test results at that time?”

“Yes.”

“Were you aware those results necessitated immediate emergency intervention?”

I sat in heavy silence. “Yes.”

A hush fell over the room. Dr. Byrne set down his pen.

“Benjamin, you are a healer.”

“You know full well what choices you consciously made.”

That evening, the doorbell rang.

Chloe stood on the doorstep with her suitcase, moonlight framing her from behind.

She was never my fated mate, yet I’d lavished care on her as if she were. Her eyes were red and

puffy.

“Ben, I’m flying out to the North Territory Pack tomorrow.”

“Could you drive me one last time?”

I studied her face.

Once, this expression had stirred my protectiveness.

Now it only brought back Sammy’s empty, unfocused eyes.

“Chloe, the day Sammy hemorrhaged during surgery, you begged me to leave him for your follow-up. Were you actually ill?”

Chloe froze.

“What are you implying?”

I tossed her medical records at her feet.

“You weren’t sick.”

“You only underwent corrective periocular cosmetic plastic surgery.”

“I abandoned my son’s surgery for that.”

Chloe’s face paled.

“Ben, I was terrified you’d think I didn’t matter.”

“It’s been so hard getting this far alone.”

“Besides, you found out eventually, didn’t you?”

I let out a hollow, bitter laugh that sounded far worse than crying.

It was true.

Her healer had reached out. I’d known she wasn’t genuinely ill-only getting elective work done

But I’d seen her as so fragile, far more delicate than my six-year-old pup battling blindness.

I was an unforgivable bastard.

Chloe never made it overseas.

Madison’s evidence was more comprehensive than I’d anticipated.

Chloe had forged an anxiety diagnosis, abused medical resources, used my signature fraudulently for her training sponsorship, and transferred half of the eight-hundred-thousand-dollar training security deposit to an unknown male lover.

I went to her apartment one evening.

The door hung slightly ajar. Inside, Chloe was curled up with a rogue.

The rogue murmured, “Is Dr. Vale still sending you money?”

Chloe drawled lazily, “Of course. Men like him are so easy. Too much responsibility, too much reputation, and he can’t stand to see me cry.”

The rogue laughed. “I heard his boy went blind?”

Chloe scoffed. “Doesn’t matter. He was always a half-blind kid anyway.”

“His mother is Benjamin’s fated mate on paper, but all I had to do was act scared, and her mate

bailed on his son’s surgery.”

“This whole mate bond arrangement is nothing short of ironic.”

I stood outside the door, fingers curling into fists.

Once, I would’ve kicked the door off its hinges and blown my top right then and there.

Not this time. I pulled out my phone, hit record, and captured every word.
