Abandoned Wolf Pup A Teddy Bear Recorded All the Abandonment of His Dad Chapter 05

His voice was barely a whisper.

I lifted him into my arms and rushed straight to Benjamin’s hospital, heading for the emergency ophthalmology unit.

After reviewing Sammy’s initial screening results, the nurse’s face fell.

She grabbed the paperwork and hurried to find the charge nurse.

Thanks to my werewolf enhanced senses of hearing, I caught their quiet exchange.

“His intraocular pressure is dangerously high-there’s a real risk of permanent blindness.”

“Dr. Vale is on-site today. I’ll go get him.”

The nurse hurried off at once.

I settled onto a hallway bench, holding Sammy tight. He leaned limply against my chest, his forehead slick with cold sweat.

He was far too exhausted to vocalize a single word, so he reached out through our mind link.

“Mommy, is Daddy coming?”

Before I could answer, he sent another thought.

“Mommy… am I going blind?”

I stroked his head. “You’re not going blind, baby.”

I avoided answering his first question-I had no way of knowing whether Benjamin would show up.

Minutes later, Benjamin stepped out of an exam room.

He spotted us and frowned.

“What are you two doing here out of the blue?”

A faint, barely concealed impatience laced his voice.

I ignored it and thrust the test results toward him.

“Sammy’s eye pressure is dangerously high, and he needs emergency care right this second.”

Benjamin took the papers. His expression shifted sharply.

As a top-tier ophthalmology pack healer, he knew exactly what those numbers meant.

Just then, the door to the adjacent exam room opened.

Chloe stepped out, wearing dark sunglasses and clutching a report that needed an official stamp.

“Ben, my eyes feel so sore after the dilation drops.”

“The doctor said I need a specialized evaluation added to my periocular healing records, or my overseas program won’t accept my paperwork.”

I fixed my gaze on her. “Periocular healing?”

Chloe’s features flickered with guilt.

It hit me then. Benjamin had bent over backward, neglecting his own son’s sight-not because Chloe was suffering from some severe condition, but because she’d gotten periocular cosmetic surgery done to qualify for her advanced training placement at the North Territory Pack.

I hugged Sammy tighter, staring at Benjamin in disbelief.

He avoided my eyes completely.

“Madison, take Sammy into the waiting room.”

“I’ll stamp Chloe’s document, then I’ll come deal with Sammy.”

I bristled and raised my voice sharply.

“You know full well what those test numbers mean for his eyes.”

Benjamin glanced around at the bystanders and lowered his voice, sharp with irritation.

“This is a professional medical facility. Stop causing a disruption.”

“If this paperwork doesn’t get stamped today, Chloe can’t fly out tomorrow.”

“I’ll sort out Sammy’s treatment-it’s not like he’ll lose his sight in the next few minutes.”

Sammy flinched in my arms.

He caught every word, and he knew exactly what being blind meant.

Chloe tugged at Benjamin’s sleeve.

“Ben, if Madison doesn’t want you stamping my form, you can go see Sammy first.”

“I’d rather give up my spot than let the two of you fall apart over me.”

Her voice was soft, leaning into the delicate vulnerability of an Omega, making her look utterly

pitiful.

Yet when her gaze slid toward me, it brimmed with smugness and thinly veiled mockery.

Predictably, Benjamin’s protectiveness toward her spiked.

He murmured soothing words while guiding her back into the exam room.

“Don’t be scared. I’m right here for you.”

He had never spoken such gentle reassurance to Sammy.

Not when our son hemorrhaged mid-surgery.

Not now, when Sammy faced permanent vision loss.

I abandoned all hope that Benjamin would step up.

I lifted Sammy and hurried straight to the emergency nurses’ station.

“I need a different attending doctor, immediately.”

The nurse quickly paged the department chief.

Midway through the new round of testing, Sammy let out a shrill scream.

Then his whole body went rigid.

He pressed both hands hard against his eye, his mouth opening and closing without a sound.

“Sammy?” I patted his cheek in a panic. “Sammy, talk to Mommy!”

He tried to look toward me-but his pupils failed to focus. He could not make a sound.

Ten minutes later, the department chief emerged holding Sammy’s scan films.

“Mrs. Smith.” He paused, his gaze heavy.

“Your pup’s right optic nerve endured prolonged compression.”

“This will result in permanent peripheral vision damage.”

My head spun, and a ringing sound filled my ears, leaving me shell-shocked.

He continued, “On top of that, the extreme shock has triggered traumatic selective mutism.”

“He will be unable to speak for a prolonged period.”

“Without targeted psychological intervention, there is a risk this could become permanent.”
