Abandoned Wolf Pup A Teddy Bear Recorded All the Abandonment of His Dad Chapter 02

Benjamin slammed a hand down to cut off the teddy bear’s audio.

His Adam’s apple bobbed once.

“I didn’t mean to abandon him that day, Madison.”

“I’d already coordinated with his pack healer beforehand, and there would be no complications.”

I drew in a sharp, steady breath.

“So you believe a sudden choroidal vessel rupture during surgery is not a problem at all?”

Benjamin’s jaw tightened.

“Don’t talk in circles with me.”

“You were there for Sammy, but Chloe only has me.”

“She had just undergone minimally invasive surgery, and as a delicate Omega, she could not attend her follow-up alone.”

I let out a bitter, hollow laugh.

“A full-grown she-wolf cannot attend a follow-up alone, yet a tiny pup has to go through major eye surgery by himself?”

Benjamin’s gaze flickered with guilt, yet his tone remained rigid and defensive.

“I have already explained everything.”

He turned away from me without another word, knelt down in front of Sammy, and pulled a box out of his suitcase.

“Sammy, Daddy brought you a present.”

“You loved stars the most when you were little.”

“I picked up a star projector lamp from the Northern Pack just for you.”

He pulled the lamp out and pressed the switch eagerly before I could stop him.

Blue and purple light spots instantly covered the walls, flickering continuously.

Sammy clapped a hand violently over his patched right eye and scrambled backward in terror.

I lunged forward and snapped the projector off instantly.

“Madison!” Benjamin snapped, already bristling because I had just ruined his chance to play the good father.

I stared him down and raised my voice sharply.

“You’re an ophthalmologist—are you unaware of post-op restrictions for retinal reconstruction surgery?”

“He must not be exposed to strong flickering light for six months post-surgery!”

Benjamin’s hand froze suspended in mid-air.

Sammy burrowed into my chest and mumbled, “Mommy, those stars sting my eyes.”

Benjamin’s face turned pale and flushed alternately.

He was about to stammer out an excuse when his phone began ringing.

Chloe’s name lit up across the screen.

His expression softened almost instinctively.

“What’s wrong?”

Chloe’s tearful voice crackled through the speaker.

“Ben, I can’t find my visa paperwork anywhere.”

“My advisor said I have to turn in my eye evaluation report first thing tomorrow, and I can’t work through all this alone.”

“Could you come help me please?”

Benjamin glanced from his phone toward Sammy, hesitating for two heartbeats before straightening to his feet.

“Madison, Chloe needs help sorting her school paperwork for her advanced training.”

“I’ll go help her finish it and come right back.”

I did not stop him.

My inner wolf should have been torn apart by my mate’s betrayal, yet it felt nothing.

Sammy did not cry either.

After the door closed, Sammy threw the star projector into the trash can, then grabbed his teddy bear and pressed its record button again.

“Teddy, the stars Daddy gave me hurt my eyes.”

“I don’t want stars anymore.”

I pulled him tight into my embrace.

His small body leaned against my chest, light as a fragile clay doll.

After Sammy fell asleep that night, I opened a drawer in my home office. Inside lay a referral document from Silverpine Pack’s elite ophthalmology hospital, alongside fully completed paperwork to terminate our mate bond—once approved by the werewolf court, I could sever our mate bond without rejecting Benjamin in person.

I circled a date fifteen days away on my calendar in red ink: the final registration deadline for the joint specialist consultation hosted by the Werewolf Ophthalmology Healer Association.

Benjamin had postponed the registration deadline repeatedly.

“Tomorrow. I have to take Chloe to her follow-up appointment today…”

“In a couple days. Chloe’s been feeling unwell lately…”

“Next week…”

I had trusted Benjamin’s empty promises far too many times.

This time, I would not leave Sammy’s chance at full recovery in his unreliable hands.

Ten Days Until the Deadline

I had just gotten off my night shift when my phone rang with a call from the central ophthalmology hospital.

Her tone was polite, yet every word chilled me to the bone.

“Mrs. Smith, we’re calling to inform you that Sammy Vale’s scheduled joint specialist consultation has been canceled.”

I thought I must have misheard her.

“Who canceled it?”

“Our system shows the cancellation was submitted by his father, Dr. Benjamin Vale, using his internal hospital staff access.”

I stood motionless in the pack hall.

My coffee mug slipped out of my hand and fell to the floor, brown liquid splashing all over my shoes.
