Her New Life, His Eternal Pain Chapter 02

Her New Life, His Eternal Pain Chapter 02 Get Lost
“No! Selene, run!” Fiona woke up sobbing, face wet with tears. She was in bed. Her bloody clothes had been changed. Someone was sitting by her bed. Samuel Scott. Back in college, Fiona had joined a first-aid club. Samuel was the president. She’d always thought of him as just a nice senior who looked out for her. But Samuel knew the truth. He was in love with her. He just realized it too late. By the time he did, she was already Liam’s girl. All these years, he’d kept his feelings buried. Stayed close. Stayed quiet. Seeing her awake, his eyes went red. His voice shook. “You do know drinking speeds up your organ failure, right?” Fiona’s groggy brain took a second to process. She wiped her face, took a breath, and nodded. Samuel shot up. “Then why?! Liam made you do it, didn’t he?” She looked down. Said nothing. That was answer enough. His heart twisted. He grabbed her hand—thin as a twig. “You can’t keep doing this. I’m taking you to the hospital.” But she pulled away. She forced a weak smile. “I’m fine. I can take care of myself.” “Listen to me. Leave him. He’s killing you. Your condition is getting worse—” “Samuel.” She cut him off, voice flat. “Let me make my own choices.” He looked at her face. Stubborn. Hopeless. He knew he’d never convince her. Selene’s death a year ago was a ghost she’d never shake. So she’d turned herself into Liam’s servant. His punching bag. Whatever he wanted. All for atonement. Samuel couldn’t talk her out of it. So he stayed the night, watching over her. The next morning, she kicked him out. Told him to get back to the hospital. Only after he left did she drag herself up, chest screaming in pain, and rush out. She had to go with Liam to some fancy party. But her role was just assistant. Liam’s real date was Serena. Serena spotted her and sneered. “Fiona, do you have no shame? You killed Selene, and you still hang around Liam.” Serena and Liam grew up together. Rich families, perfect match. She’d been in love with him since they were kids. Before Fiona showed up, Serena had already picked out her wedding dress in her head. But then this broke orphan came along and took him. Serena was eaten alive with jealousy. And now that Selene was dead because of Fiona, she could finally take out all that hate. Fiona just kept her head down. Didn’t argue. Stood there like a piece of furniture. Then Liam walked over. Serena hooked her arm through his. Sweet as pie. “Liam.” He gave her a warm smile. Then looked at Fiona. His eyes went cold as ice. “Who let you in here? Wait outside.” It was the middle of summer. Outside was pushing a hundred and ten degrees. You’d get heatstroke in minutes. Fiona just nodded and walked out. Open lawn. No shade. None. She stood there in the blazing sun. Her lungs were already shot. In this heat, her frail body started shaking, struggling to breathe. “Miss, why don’t you go inside and rest?” a janitor asked, feeling bad for her. “No, thanks.” She stood there till dark. Passed out once. When Liam heard, he just said— “She’s faking it again.” Told everyone to leave her alone. When she came to and found out, she didn’t say anything. Just gave a sad little smile and kept standing there until the party finally ended. Serena walked out in Liam’s arm. They saw Fiona still there. Soaked in sweat. Swaying on her feet. Liam’s throat bobbed. His voice came out rough. “Stop standing there like an eyesore. Get lost.” He led Serena away. Fiona stumbled after them, half-conscious. They passed a patch of thorn bushes. Serena’s lips curled. She lurched forward like someone had pushed her. “Oops! My earring!” She spun around, fake-furious. “First you kill Liam’s sister, and now you’re pushing me?!” Fiona’s mouth opened. “I didn’t—” “Liar!” Serena pouted at Liam. “Liam, those were my favorite earrings.” Liam’s face went dark at the mention of his sister. He looked at the “culprit.” Snarled, “Get in there and find it.” Didn’t ask questions. Didn’t give her a chance. Fiona stared at the thorns. No way in without getting shredded. But she walked in anyway. Her summer dress was flimsy. Thorns tore right through. Cut her skin. Blood soaked into the light fabric. She was already weak. Searching in the dark, her vision started swimming. She could barely stand. Liam watched for a few seconds. Then turned his back. “Don’t find it, don’t come out. Die in there for all I care. At least then you can pay Selene back in hell.” Then he left with Serena. —
