Her Unborn Baby’s Voice Chapter 05

Her Unborn Baby’s Voice Chapter 05

After forcing myself to recuperate in the hospital for two days, I insisted on being discharged.

My body still throbbed with pain, every injury screaming in protest, but time wouldn’t wait.

Knowing my temperament, Jane ultimately failed to dissuade me. With a reluctant sigh, she handled the temporary discharge procedures and pushed my wheelchair all the way to the Confidential Bureau.

As we moved down the long corridor, I could feel eyes on me from every direction.

Some were filled with concern. Others with curiosity. And more than a few carried undisguised shock

and confusion.

Outside the interrogation room, Chief Nicholas Monroe of the disciplinary committee approached with a grave expression. His brows drew tight as he took in my bandage–wrapped body slumped in the

wheelchair.

“Jerry, you really shouldn’t be here in your condition.”

I raised a hand weakly, yet with unmistakable firmness, cutting off his attempt to persuade me.

“I can manage.” My voice was faint but resolute. “What’s the situation inside?”

Chief Monroe exchanged a glance with Jane before letting out a heavy sigh.

“It’s not going well. The recording is solid evidence–it clearly proves they subjected you to severe coercive interrogation and committed serious procedural violations. On that point, they have no defense.”

He rubbed his temples, looking worn.

“But regarding the core accusation–that you colluded with foreign forces and leaked classified information–Mary, in particular, continues to insist she was guided by the fetus’s ‘voice.‘ She claims it’s a supernatural revelation of the truth.”

At that, Jane couldn’t hold back.

“Chief Monroe, I’m willing to stake my entire career on this–Jerry could never be a traitor!” Her tone was firm, unwavering. She turned to me, her eyes filled with unreserved trust.

“He has always followed every clause of the confidentiality regulations to the letter. He’s never even

committed the slightest violation. How could he possibly do something so treasonous?”

A quiet warmth rose in my chest, pushing back the chill that had settled in my body.

In my previous life, I had been abandoned by everyone, dying under false accusations. In this life, at my

most desperate moment, there was still someone willing to stand by me without hesitation.

Chief Monroe gave Jane a slight nod, clearly placing great weight on her testimony.

“It’s precisely because of Jane’s character guarantee–and because something like a ‘fetal voice‘ cannot be admitted as legal evidence–that the core of this case has reached a deadlock.”

Lowering his voice, he revealed the internal difficulty.

“The two of them–especially Mary–are highly emotional, almost obsessively convinced that the baby’s

voice cannot be wrong. They insist you’re guilty, claiming only that you’ve hidden the evidence more

carefully.”

A cold laugh escaped me, laced with bitter irony. Just as I expected. That same stubbornness as in my

previous life. They had already cast themselves as arbiters of justice, lost in the lies they had woven,

blind to the undeniable evidence before them.

“Chief Monroe, please allow me to go in.”

My request was calm, but left no room for refusal.

I wanted to see it with my own eyes. I wanted to witness their fall from grace–their disgrace in captivity.

And I wanted to see whether this so–called “perfect partnership” could still cling to its laughable “trust”

and “conviction” in the face of irrefutable proof.
