The Love Missing From Summer Chapter 05

The Love Missing From Summer Chapter 05

Countless messages flooded the chat.

Silas Whitcomb had blown up my phone with missed calls.

In four years, he had never sent me this many messages.

[Tessa, something urgent came up last night. I didn’t get a chance to tell you.]

[Why did you change the door code? You’re not home? Where are you?]

He had probably gone to my apartment, failed to find me, then gone to the restaurant.

[The server at the restaurant said you waited for me all night. Why would you do that?]

[Where the hell are you? Tessa Calder, say something.]

[I was wrong. I shouldn’t have made you wait that long. I’m sorry.]

[Why is your phone off? Did something happen to you? Answer me. Don’t make me worry.]

[Tessa Calder, don’t ignore me. What happened to you?]

I stared at that last question.

All I felt was absurd amusement.

I ignored him.

My dad picked me up from the airport.

He cheerfully took my suitcase.

But as soon as we got in the car, my phone started vibrating again.

Silas was calling.

Only then did I have a free hand to block him.

The car fell quiet again. My dad did not ask questions.

When I got home, I received a message from my landlord.

[Tessa, some man came to your rental door. He kept pressing the lock and pounding on the door. Building management contacted me.]

[He was really emotional, looked completely lost, and kept muttering something about you resigning.]

[I told him you moved out, and his face went white. Is he someone you know?]

I immediately texted her back.

[I don’t know him anymore. I’m so sorry for the trouble. If he damaged the door, please take the repairs out of my deposit. If he disturbs anyone again, you can call 911.]

Because I was coming home, my mom made a whole table of my favorite dishes.

She served me a spoonful of food, and the phone beside her rang.

The caller ID said Silas.

My mom glanced at it and hung up.

My dad had just taken a big bite of rice and had not even swallowed when his phone rang too.

He looked at me.

I felt nothing.

“Answer if you want.”

He accepted the call.

Silas’s anxious voice came through the speaker.

“Mr. Calder, is Tessa home? She hasn’t been answering my messages…”

My dad gave a cold laugh.

“My Tessa has always known what she’s doing. If she won’t talk to you, that means you must have done something unforgivable.”

“And you still have the nerve to call me?”
