He Wanted an Heir, So I Gave Him Ashes Chapter 37

When she pushed open the bedroom door, she found Cole in the kitchen.

He was wearing a gray apron that looked completely out of place on him, his attention focused on frying bacon. The air was filled with the aroma of coffee and food.

“Cole?”

Ellie stared at his back. The chaotic fragments of the previous night snapped into place.

Right. He had sold her apartment address to Rhett in exchange for a contract.

Anger shot through her.

“You went too far,” she said, pressing a hand to her aching temple, her voice tight with fury.

Cole turned. A flicker of guilt crossed his face, but he quickly regained his composure and transferred the bacon to a plate.

“I was wrong,” he admitted frankly. “So I cleared my schedule and came here to apologize.”

He carried the plate over to her, his tone as matter-of-fact as if he were laying out a business plan.

“I only told Rhett the address of your apartment. I didn’t tell him where your company is. It’ll take him a while to find this place.”

“Stay here with me for a few days. It’s safer.”

Ellie was about to argue when her gaze fell on several shopping bags on the living room sofa.

They were from luxury department stores she frequented.

She walked over and saw full sets of new clothing inside—coats, dresses, and even… a brand-new set of underwear.

Her cheeks burned.

“Why did you buy these?”

Cole’s explanation was so natural it was almost cold.

“You passed out last night, and you smelled like a distillery. I knew you’d feel uncomfortable when you woke up. I don’t have any of your things here, so I had someone buy new ones.”

He paused, then added, “Don’t worry. They’re all new. The tags have been removed, and they’ve been dry-cleaned. You can wear them now.”

Besides clothes, the bags contained a toothbrush, her usual brand of skincare, and a complete set of new makeup.

Cole had thought of everything.

So thoroughly that she was left speechless.

Ellie glared at him. In the end, she said nothing. She just picked up the bags and disappeared into the bathroom.
