He Wanted an Heir, So I Gave Him Ashes Chapter 22

Seeing these reports in front of Rhett’s parents was the ultimate humiliation.

She knew that from this moment on, in their eyes, she would always be the woman who had destroyed the Walker family’s reputation.

“Mr. Walker, Mrs. Walker,” she said, her voice pitiful and helpless, “I truly love Rhett.”

“I… I never meant to replace anyone. I just… I only wanted to stay by his side, to take care of him and Beau… Please don’t make me leave.”

Rhett’s parents exchanged a cold look.

Finally, Rhett’s mother spoke, her voice devoid of warmth.

“Even if you’re not here, there will be someone else to take care of Rhett.”

Her words were a delicate little knife, precisely severing Daisy’s last hope.

“And the person who has always taken the best care of him is Ellie.”

Daisy’s face went white. Her lips trembled, but no words came out. Her faint hope was sinking, fast.

Just then, Rhett came downstairs.

Seeing Daisy on the verge of tears, his brow furrowed. He couldn’t quite bring himself to abandon her completely.

“Dad, Mom,” he began hoarsely, “I asked Daisy to stay.”

The moment the words left his mouth, his mother fixed him with a cold, scrutinizing glare.

“So Ellie is gone, and the company is collapsing. Is this the result you wanted?”

At the mention of Ellie’s name, Rhett felt as if he’d been punched in the chest. Any defense he had for Daisy died on his lips.

The living room froze. Even the air seemed to solidify.

Just then, the doorbell rang.

The butler went to answer it.

“Hello. May I ask who you’re here for?”

A man in a dark suit stood on the porch, his expression serious, a thick briefcase in his hand.

“Hello. I am the attorney representing Ms. Ellie Vance.”

The man’s voice was not loud, but it carried clearly to every corner of the room. He looked past the butler, his gaze locking directly onto Rhett.

“I am here to serve Mr. Rhett Walker with the notice of the now-effective forced sale of assets, as well as the court-issued enforcement order.”
