Tiffany had been pampered since she was a child. She’d never been treated like this in her life.

She froze, utterly stunned.

“Grandpa, why did you kick me?”

The fall had torn her fresh stitches open.

Blood quickly began to seep through the bandages.

Normally, Mr. Vance would have been beside himself with worry.

But now, his only concern was damage control.

“Go find Claire Monroe.”

“We have to go to her and beg for forgiveness. In person.”

“Beg her?”

Tiffany struggled to her feet, wincing in pain.

Fearing she would say something else to make things worse, the assistant quickly explained Claire’s identity.

After she heard it, she just stood there, frozen, for a long, long time.

Mr. Lawson and Mr. Vance were already rushing out, desperately trying to find a way to contact me.

At that moment, I was sitting in the estate, watching a stock chart on my tablet.

I had thought Lawson and Vance would hold out for a while.

The reality was far more pathetic than I’d expected.

The estate’s security was impenetrable.

As long as I didn’t want to be found, they would never find me.

Three days later, both companies collapsed into bankruptcy.

The news was everywhere.

Everyone was speculating about who the two long-standing New York families had offended to be crushed so thoroughly, so quickly.

Derek couldn’t be bothered with his recovery anymore.

He sat in a wheelchair, pushed out of the hospital by his assistant.

He had started as nothing more than his father’s illegitimate son.

If I hadn’t advised him, if I hadn’t cleared the path for him, he never would have achieved his current position.

But he decided my name wasn’t good enough and let Tiffany use me for her amusement.

So now, I was taking back everything I had ever given him.

I was sending him right back to where he came from.
