My Husband Wiped The Handle My Brother Touched And Called It Clean Chapter 01

My brother, Logan, had just graduated from high school and gotten his driver’s license. He only wanted to touch the modified old car parked in the yard.

Ethan deliberately pressed the car lock button right in front of my brother’s face, his eyes instantly turning icy cold.

My mother stood to the side, her smile freezing instantly. “Ethan, Logan was just curious. He didn’t mean any harm…” she stammered.

Ignoring her completely, Ethan pulled out a disinfectant wipe. He began cleaning the door handle Logan had touched, inch by inch.

Swallowing down the humiliation, I tried to smooth things over. “Mom, it’s fine. He said the car needs deep maintenance soon, so no one should touch it.”

Our relatives exchanged uneasy glances. None of them thought a retired old car deserved such extreme fuss.

I lowered my head, burying the bitterness deep inside. It wasn’t that the car was too precious. He simply despised my family.

Even when my own brother barely touched the door, he threw a tantrum and treated it like filth.

Yet, when his first love’s brother hadn’t even passed his learner’s permit test, Ethan personally coached him. He had even driven this exact “untouchable” car down dangerous mountain roads just to teach him.

Seeing his reaction, my mother rubbed her hands nervously, her voice trembling. “It’s my fault for not teaching him better. Logan’s hands are rough. I hope he didn’t scratch the big boss’s paint.”

Watching my mother bend her back to appease him, I dug my fingernails into my palms until they nearly bled. This humiliating marriage had finally reached its limit.

“Ethan, Logan just finished his finals, and today is his graduation dinner. Do you have to make things so ugly?” I kept my voice low.

Ethan tossed the wipe into the trash can. “I just don’t like other people touching my things. Is that a crime?”

Looking at his cold profile, I closed my eyes. This old car was a secondhand piece he bought when he first started his business.

Back then, his business was failing, and he couldn’t even afford repairs.

Knowing his brother-in-law was broke, Logan, who was only in middle school at the time, emptied his piggy bank and handed him all his savings.

Back then, Ethan ruffled Logan’s hair. He promised he would treat Logan well and said Logan could drive the car whenever he wanted in the future.

But now, Logan had only touched the handle, and the man treated him like a plague.

My mother forced a tight smile. “Ethan, the relatives are waiting in the private room. Let’s head inside first, okay? I specifically asked the kitchen to make your favorite sweet and sour ribs…”

Right then, Ethan’s phone rang. He turned his body away to shield the screen from my sight. “Hey, what’s wrong?”

Whatever the person on the other end said made his tone instantly anxious and gentle. “In trouble again? Don’t worry, I’m coming right now.”

He completely ignored my mother’s frozen, pleasing smile and walked straight toward the exit.

I grabbed his arm. “Ethan, today is my brother’s graduation dinner. The whole family is inside waiting to toast you.”

The man brushed my hand off. “An emergency came up at the company. I have to handle it.”

I stared into his eyes. “Is it a company emergency, or a Stella emergency?”

Exposed, Ethan’s face darkened. “Chloe, can you stop being so unreasonable? Stella’s brother was just yelled at by his driving instructor. She was crying on the phone because she was so worried. I have to go check on them.”

The corners of my mouth twitched into a bitter, absurd smile. “Her brother gets chewed out, and you rush to back him up. But for my brother’s graduation dinner, you just have to humiliate him in public?”

He didn’t bother to reply. With the roar of the engine, the car sped away, leaving behind a cloud of dust.

Silence fell over the entrance. The relatives who had walked out after hearing the noise looked at each other, their eyes filled with pity.

Forcing back my tears, I turned around and squeezed out a smile. “His company is preparing to go public, so he’s been slammed lately. Let’s just eat.”

I barely touched my food during that dinner.

At two in the morning, the dead silence of the house was shattered by the click of the front door unlocking. Ethan walked in reeking of alcohol, carrying a strange scent of cedar perfume on his clothes.

He tossed the car keys onto the entryway table, a shopping bag in his hand.

I watched him change his shoes. “Backing up someone else’s brother requires drinking until dawn and getting covered in perfume?”

Ethan froze, only then noticing me sitting in the dark. I flipped on the living room light. The blinding glare made me squint.

“I went to deal with the driving school. Austin felt a bit wronged. I just stayed for a late-night snack to comfort them,” he said casually.

His tone was completely nonchalant, as if abandoning his family to accompany his first love’s brother was the most normal thing in the world.

I pointed at the bag in his hand. “What’s that?”

Ethan remained unbothered. “A limited-edition helmet I picked up from the club. The kid was terrified by the instructor today, so I’m giving it to him tomorrow to cheer him up.”

Logan scored in the top ten in the citywide placements. He just wanted to touch an old car, and he was publicly rejected.

Stella’s brother hadn’t even passed his basic permit test and only got scolded a little.

Yet Ethan not only rushed over to handle it personally, but he also bought an expensive helmet to comfort him.

It turned out he wasn’t naturally cold-hearted. His affection was just reserved for someone else, and it never belonged to me.

I stood up, my voice flat. “Ethan, let’s get a divorce.”
