Bought A Lover, Got A Butler: The Demon CEO’s Secret Chapter 03

I’d barely been at my desk half an hour when a shipping notification lit up my phone. A message from customer service came in right after.

[Hey hun, your companion-type succubus has shipped! Keep an eye out for the delivery~]

[Here’s his profile — make sure you’ve got the basics ready for him before he arrives!]

I tapped open the file. His name was Ethan Sterling, five-ten, a hundred and seventy pounds, registered to me.

He ran a good two sizes smaller than Liam. None of Liam’s clothes would fit him, which meant I’d need to pick up a few things.

I added “buy clothes” to my to-do list. After work, I met up with a couple of coworkers who were heading to the mall and grabbed a few basics for him while I was out.

We got so caught up talking I didn’t check my phone once. It wasn’t until I was standing at my front door that I pulled it out and saw the missed calls.

They were all from Liam.

Since when did Liam ever call me? Before I could even finish the thought, the door swung open.

His gaze swept over me, sharp and intent. “Alice, where were you? I’ve been trying to reach you.”

“Shopping.” I blinked at him, genuinely confused.

Since when did a domestic-type succubus keep tabs on where his owner went? He’d never done that before.

Liam’s expression didn’t ease until I stepped through the door with armfuls of bags and dropped them on the sofa, letting a plaid shirt spill into view.

Something flickered at the corner of his mouth, there and gone in a second, and then he knelt to set out my slippers before gathering up the bags and carrying them to his room.

He came back a minute later, moving a little stiffly. The shirt was at least two sizes too small, stretched tight across his chest, pulled over muscles that had no business being on a housekeeping model, and the effect was borderline obscene.

“It’s a little tight,” he said, tugging at the collar. “But I can leave it unbuttoned.”

I wanted the floor to open up and swallow me, because this was a complete disaster of a misunderstanding.

I had bought Liam clothes before, plenty of times. The problem was that every piece I’d picked out had been skimpier and more shameless than the one before.

He’d rejected all of them, spending the last few months rotating between the same two normal outfits.

I cleared my throat, scrambling to clarify. “If it doesn’t fit, don’t force it. I’ll get you something new.”

“No, it’s fine.” Something warm slipped into Liam’s voice, low and almost gentle. “I like this one.”

“But I didn’t buy that for you,” I murmured.

Liam’s gaze darkened. He looked at me without moving, without blinking, and suddenly the room felt airless.
