The Day the Don’s Heiress Lost Her Womb Chapter 04 It’s Too Late

Vera lost all color..

She kicked and struggled, tears and snot running down her face.

“I thought she was lying. I thought she lost the baby and wanted money for jewelry. I didn’t know it would become this. Godfather, please believe me. I only told you she refused the hospital because I wanted you to scold her, to make her behave. I didn’t mean to.”

“You didn’t mean to?”

Kane laughed.

That laugh was uglier than a sob.

“She has terminal cancer. She has one month left. And that’s your excuse?”

He turned toward the door and roared, “Men!”

Two guards in black rushed in.

“Take her to the underground operating room. Remove her uterus first. Let her feel what Elena suffered. After that, pour her in concrete and dump her at the Eastbank landfill.”

“No! Kane! I’ve served you for years. You can’t do this to me!”

Vera screamed until her voice tore, but the guards covered her mouth and dragged her away.

The door slammed shut.

Silence fell at once.

Kane stood there breathing hard.

A yellow puddle spread across the floor where Vera had been.

Slowly, he turned to me.

The rage on his face was gone.

Only panic remained.

He stumbled toward me. Even his steps looked weak.

“Elena… I’m sorry. I didn’t know. I really didn’t know.”

He reached for my face.

I stepped back.

Then I picked up the suitcase by my feet.

“Now you know.” I looked at him calmly. “But it’s too late.”

I walked around him.

He jolted and reached for me, but his hand caught nothing.

“Elena! Where are you going?” His voice cracked behind me. “Don’t leave. I was wrong. I’ll get you the best doctors. I’ll cure you. Please don’t go.”

I did not turn around.

The hallway outside was full of bodyguards.

No one stopped me.

They all looked to Kane, waiting for his order.

But Kane only stood in place, staring at my back like something had been hollowed out of him.

I walked out of Wood Manor, hailed a cab, and went straight to the airport.

When the car had driven far enough, I looked into the rearview mirror.

The castle-like manor shrank behind me.

Then it disappeared.

I breathed out slowly.

Kane and I were finally over.
