When He Said I Was The Replacement, I Said Finally Chapter 04

When He Said I Was The Replacement, I Said Finally Chapter 04

Recently, my class group chat had been organizing a class reunion, checking the availability of everyone.

I also found out that the person I’d liked for so long was coming back home today.

I got up early and got dressed up carefully.

I wasn’t imitating anyone—this beauty was uniquely mine.

With my heart pounding with excitement, I arrived at the airport arrival gate. After waiting so long with great anticipation, I finally saw him appear.

Cyrus Swan… He was finally back.

In that moment, tears welled up in my eyes. My lips trembled a few times, but I ended up not calling out his name.

He seemed to sense my eager gaze, stopped in his tracks and turned to look over. I panicked and squatted down, letting the bustling crowd hide me.

After a while, I stood up nervously, but all I could see was Cyrus’ already distant back.

When I agreed to take that job with Yves, there was another very important reason—he looked quite similar to Cyrus.

I missed Cyrus so much, but he was across the ocean, and I couldn’t even sneak a look at him. Yves’ face largely eased my longing for Cyrus.

But their personalities were completely different, so Yves could never replace my true love. Perhaps, to him, I was just the same.

I got all dressed up today just for my crush, but he didn’t even see me. I stamped my foot in frustration. How could I still be this cowardly after so many years!

I’d loved Cyrus since high school. Though he came from a poor family, always wearing clothes and shoes that had faded from repeated washing, his back was always held straight, never feeling ashamed.

He was noble but not aloof, kind and gentle, warm to all. He was excellent academically, always ranking first, yet he never lost his humility.

He had so many wonderful qualities that I couldn’t help but be drawn to him.

On graduation day, I was going to work up the courage to confess to him, when I accidentally saw him rejecting another girl.

He said gently, “I’m sorry, my current situation doesn’t allow me to date. For me, my future and making money are more important.”

That girl got her heart broken, and of course, so did I.

I knew my limits. I understood I would never be the exception that mattered more than his future and money, so that confession was never sent.

But I never stopped following Cyrus. I knew he got admitted to Watson University with a full scholarship, and later went abroad for a graduate degree.

After that, he got a good job offer. He was originally supposed to be sent to the UK, but because he had no connections, the spot was taken by someone with family influence, and he was reassigned to South Africa, where conditions were much harsher.

I felt distressed for him, and also sad that I couldn’t do anything to help.

After that, I gradually lost touch with him.

Oh well. At least I got to see him today.

Anyway, we’d meet again soon at the class reunion.
