Married At 9AM, Divorced At 10AM Chapter 20

He got to the West mansion close to midnight.

The housekeeper opened the door and jumped back in surprise.

“Emma! Emma, come out here!”

Emma came down the stairs in a cardigan.

She frowned. “What are you doing here?”

“Nicholas West isn’t a good person.” Jake was breathing heavily. “He sent Sophia after me. That’s why we—”

“I know,” she said flatly.

Jake froze. “You… you knew?”

Emma walked down the stairs and sat down on the couch.

She moved slowly, her belly already quite big.

“Such a shame that car accident didn’t take you away. It would have saved me a lot of suffering.”

Jake’s heart ached.

“Do you have to negate everything… everything between us like this?”

“Stop playing the devoted lover here.” Emma’s voice carried a tired, mocking edge. “He chased me for eight years because I’m worth it. You lied to me for three years. Same reason.”

Jake’s legs nearly gave out. “But you knew. Then why did you still marry him?”

“Because I felt like it.” She laughed. “Didn’t you say I would never marry anyone but you?”

“Emma—”

“I also said that once we got married, I would teach you my father’s craft.” She cut him off, her voice flat. “But what happened? You didn’t believe me.”

“Now I’m teaching it to Nicholas. Now you believe it.”

“So tell me, Jake. Doesn’t that make you pathetic?”

Her words cut like needles, piercing the most vulnerable parts of him.

He couldn’t speak anymore.

Emma looked at his pathetic state, a faint smile playing on her lips, but beneath it, she was cold.

All these years, Nicholas had indeed been pursuing her.

But she would rather believe that Jake, who had been “dirt poor” for three years, had actually loved her than believe in the sincerity of a rich man.

Rather than being played by others, it was better to hold the initiative in her own hands.

She needed to go back to Portsville to build her career, and she

needed him.

He gave her resources; she gave him the craft.

An equal exchange, not a loss.

And now with the baby, her parents’ craft wouldn’t die out.

Mission accomplished.
