Three Chances for the Amnesiac Don Chapter 03

Three Chances for the Amnesiac Don Chapter 03

Cordelia’s pov

I regained consciousness in the Wren family’s private medical wing, to find Phineas slumped over the side of my hospital bed.

“Cordelia…” His voice cracked, hoarse and fractured, his eyes instantly bloodshot. “You’re awake. I’m truly sorry—this is entirely my fault.”

Scalding tears dripped down and landed on the back of my hand.

I knew exactly how this scene would unfold. I laid a hand flat on my stomach, a stabbing, wrenching agony tearing through my chest.

A child had grown inside me, a life I had never learned about before it slipped away forever.

Months earlier, following a vicious fight with Phineas, I had miscarried.

Later, he got amnesia. He defied his father, the Don, to marry me.

Seraphina turned up just three days after our elopement, before Phineas had undergone his vasectomy.

Blinded by rage, I shoved him back onto the bed. “If you dare sleep with her right before my eyes, I’ll finally believe your amnesia isn’t an act.”

This was our second shot at happiness, our second child and yet neither of us managed to hold on.

“I’m so sorry. Once you heal, we can try for another baby,” he gasped out, sinking to his knees beside the bed with his head hung low.

“I’ll seek out the top specialists. We can adopt, or whatever you wish.”

I only stared at him, drained and utterly numb.“There will never be a third chance. This was our second child, and the final one.”

Sorrow crashed down on me like a boulder, crushing my lungs tight—yet not a single tear fell.

“Three days from now, we’re going to City Hall to finalize our divorce.”

Phineas stared at me, his eyes glistening with remorse. “Cordelia, don’t do this to us…”

My entire life had been torn apart and laid to waste in a single night.

I cut him off mid-sentence. I snatched the glass water carafe from the bedside table and hurled it straight at him.

“Get out! Phineas, I never wish to lay eyes on you ever again!”

The bedroom door slammed shut behind him.

I remained lying in bed, gazing blankly at the ceiling while the hospital room sank into shadow.

A soft click sounded as the door creaked open once more, and Seraphina stepped inside.

“Cordelia, what does it feel like to be cast aside once more?” she purred, her tone thick with feigned pity.

I squeezed my eyes shut, and she let out a quiet, mocking chuckle.

“The pain must be unbearable. You’re infertile now, just like your grandmother—two women bound by the same doomed curse.”

My eyes flew wide open in shock.

“Oh?” She put on a show of astonishment. “Did Phineas never tell you? The doctors could have saved your child.”

“But he chose to let the pregnancy end the moment I threatened to leave him. And there’s more…”

She drank in the stunned look on my face, her cold laughter reverberating around the antiseptic room.

“When your old family home blew up, I blocked every emergency exit and pulled out her oxygen tube. Your foolish mother still believes you’re the one who murdered her.”

“What did you just say?!” Her words landed on me like successive punches.

I caught every word clearly, yet my mind rejected the truth outright.

The moment the truth crashed home, I lunged forward before I could stop myself.

I seized the heavy crystal vase and swung it hard.

Crash.

I rained blow after blow down on her, slamming the broken vase into her body with every last shred of strength I possessed.

“Ahh!” She let out a shrill scream and crumpled to the floor.

She stared up at me, terror etched across her face, staring at the blood spreading steadily beneath her body.
