Six Years Of Afternoon Tea Bought Me The Truth About My Husband Chapter 05

On the day of the birthday banquet, I wore a black dress.

When Andres saw me, he frowned. “It’s my mother’s birthday, and you’re wearing black?”

“It’s slimming.”

“Change it.”

“No.”

He held back his temper, warning, “Don’t start anything today.”

I walked to the door and looked back at him. “If you’re so afraid of me making a scene, why did you bring

Norah?”

His face darkened. “You already agreed to it.”

“I agreed to let her come. I didn’t agree to let her step all over me.”

Andres walked up to me, lowering his voice. “Stevie, don’t forget who pays for everything you have.”

I stared right back at him. “And don’t you forget who picked you up when you had nothing.”

His expression turned incredibly ugly.

The car arrived at the hotel.

Lainey was already at the entrance greeting guests.

When she saw me, her eyes first swept over my dress, then down to my neck. “Where’s the necklace? Andres

bought it for you. Why aren’t you wearing it?”

“Too cheap,”

Her eyes widened, demanding, “What did you say?”

I smiled, replying, “I didn’t want to embarrass you.”

Lainey choked on her words.

With all the relatives present, she couldn’t fly into a rage.

She gnawed her teeth, ordering, “Go inside and help out.”

I didn’t move an inch. “I’m your daughter-in-law, not a waitress.”

Several people nearby looked over.

Lainey’s face instantly darkened from the embarrassment.

Andres walked over and pulled me aside. “What’s wrong with you today?”

“Nothing.”

“Then behave.”

I pulled my hand back. “I’m behaving perfectly fine right now.”

Norah arrived at 11:30 AM.

She wore a loose white dress, and her belly was clearly visible.

Andres went to the door to receive her personally.

When Lainey saw her, a massive smile instantly broke across her face. “Easy, easy, don’t tire yourself out.”

She supported Norah as they walked inside.

The looks on the relatives’ faces completely changed.

Some looked at me.

Some looked at her belly.

Some whispered in low voices.

Norah walked up to me, smiling sweetly. “Stevie, happy birthday-no, I mean, happy birthday, Mrs. Moreau.

I’m just so nervous.”

Lainey quickly had her back. “She’s pregnant. Pregnant women forget things. It’s completely normal.”

I nodded, “True, after all, there’s a lack of blood supply to the brain.”

Norah’s face froze.

Lainey slammed the table, yelling, “Stevie, how dare you speak like that?”

I picked up my water glass, answering, “I’m just speaking plain English.”

Andres quickly walked over. “Stevie.”

He only uttered my name.

The tone was heavy with warning.

I watched as Norah was seated at the main table.

Her seat was right next to Lainey.

My seat had been moved all the way to the edge.

Lainey even announced to the crowd, “Stevie, you sit over there so it’s convenient for you to take care of the

guests.”

I looked at that chair. In the corner, with its back to the projector screen.

Pretty good. It made it easy for me to see the whole room.

As soon as I sat down, Lainey pulled out the red folder. “Since everyone’s here today, I have some happy

news to announce.”

Andres’s face changed completely, calling out, “Mom.”

Lainey ignored him.

She lifted her chin and looked at me. “Stevie, sign this. In the future, Norah’s child will count as half your

child, too.”

Norah lowered her head and stroked her belly.

Andres did nothing to stop it.

He just watched me. Waiting for me to bow my head.

Lainey slapped a pen down in front of me. “Sign it.”

I picked up the pen.

Andres let out a sigh of relief.

The corners of Norah’s mouth couldn’t hide her smirk.

Lainey smiled with satisfaction.

I flipped to the last page, and right before the pen tip touched the paper, I looked up at the projector control

booth.

Callie stood there, giving me a firm nod.

I set the pen down and picked up the microphone from the table. “Since it’s happy news, let’s make sure

everyone hears it loud and clear.”

My voice boomed out through the speakers.

Lainey’s face instantly twisted, yelling, “Stevie, what are you doing with the microphone?”

I didn’t look at her.

“Today is Mrs. Moreau’s birthday. As the daughter-in-law, I’ve prepared a gift.”

Andres stood up to grab the microphone.

I took a step back.

Callie pressed the play button.

The large screen lit up.

The first image was the hospital registration slip.

Norah Blake, 12 weeks pregnant.

Accompanied by: Andres Moreau.

The second image was the receipt from the baby boutique.

The third image was a screenshot of the property fee payment for Cloudview Residences.

Payer: Andres Moreau.

The crowd below erupted into total chaos.

Lainey stood up, pointing her finger at me. “Turn it off! Turn it off right now!”

Nobody moved.

Callie stood right next to the control panel, her back perfectly straight.

Andres rushed toward her.

Callie’s husband stepped out to block him.

He had always been respectful and deferential to Andres. But today, he didn’t back down. “Mr. Moreau, didn’t

you already fire me today? I no longer answer to you.”

Andres’s face turned completely livid. “You’d turn on me?”

The driver sneered, replying, “I drove for you for six years. I’m not blind to what went on in the back seat.”

Norah burst into tears. “Andres, I’m scared.”

Andres spun around and snapped at her, “Shut up!”

She froze instantly.

Lainey slapped the table in a panic, yelling, “Andres, why are you shouting at Norah? She’s carrying a child!”

I held the microphone and walked right up to the main table.

“Mrs. Moreau, don’t worry. There’s more coming up next.”
