I Saw The Comments Predicting My Divorce And Fired The Cause First Chapter 02

Miles frowned.

“Over a bag of oranges? She was just being nice…”

“She’s not being nice. She’s making a move on you.”

He stared at me for a beat, then broke into a grin and reached for my hand.

“You’re reading into it. She’s fresh out of college, basically a kid. She happens to be really good at her job. She’s already landed three major accounts for the marketing team.”

“I don’t care how you run your company.” I pulled my hand back. “But I don’t like her. Get rid of her.”

Miles exhaled, long and slow, like he was talking himself into patience.

“Babe, come on. You’re being dramatic.

“I can’t fire someone just because my wife has a bad feeling about her. How would that look?”

[THE ML IS DEFENDING WILLOW. My heart.]

[Lol look at the ex-wife’s face right now. So satisfying.]

[This is just the start. Later she tries to frame Willow and the ML has her straight-up committed to a psych ward.]

A psych ward.

Something seized in my chest, sharp and airless, like a fist closing around my lungs.

I looked at him.

His eyes were still gentle. His voice was still patient. He was still trying to soothe me.

But he didn’t know what I knew. The comments had already shown me how this story ended.

I closed my eyes and swallowed everything rising in my throat.

“Fine. Don’t fire her.”

Miles relaxed. “Thanks, babe. I knew you’d…”

“Transfer all your assets into my name. Fully notarized.”

The office went dead silent.

Every trace of relief drained from his face.

“Harper. We’re at the office.”

His voice dropped. “Don’t do this here.”

I held his gaze and said nothing.

His phone rang.

He answered, spoke in clipped tones, then hung up.

“I’ve got a work dinner tonight. I’ll have the driver take you home.”

He didn’t wait for an answer. He just turned and left.

His stride was quick.

Like he couldn’t get away fast enough.

[Haha the ex-wife is BIG mad.]

[Serves her right. She really thought she could demand all his property and he’d just go along with it??]

[Just wait till the ML and Willow get together. He literally gives her full control of his finances. THAT’S how you know who he really loves.]

I don’t remember the ride home.

The next thing I knew, I was in the study, staring at my laptop screen.

The comments said I’d have nothing after the divorce. That I’d end up as some OnlyFans model with no real skills.

What a joke.

I opened a folder.

My photography portfolio. Hundreds of shots.

And tucked between the folders were awards. Magazine features, competition placements.

I scrolled through them slowly.

The last image made me stop.

It was a mosaic: hundreds of photos of me and Miles, arranged to form his face.

Every tile was a moment we’d shared.

But right where his heart should have been, there was a gap. One piece missing.

That space was meant for a photo of the aurora.

We’d made that promise back in college, that we’d go see it together someday.

He told me the northern lights meant forever.

That was years ago.

We never went.

I pulled up a job board and started building a résumé.

Every award, every feature, every competition. I listed them all.

I attached my portfolio link at the end.

I clicked submit.

The next morning, I started clawing back everything I’d let rust.

I started with breakfast.

Stove on. Oil in the pan.

I cracked the eggs in, and hot oil splattered across the counter.

A drop caught the back of my hand and I hissed, jerking away.

Miles came flying downstairs, grabbed my wrist, and shoved my hand under cold water.

“What are you doing? Why didn’t you let me do it?”

[The ex-wife is at it again. Now she’s cosplaying as an independent woman lmao.]

[She really thinks the ML is gonna fall for this act?? Girl, please.]

[LMAO the ML is just gonna think she’s lost her mind.]

Miles sat me down on the couch and dabbed ointment over the burn, as gently as if I were made of glass.

“Are you still upset about yesterday?”

I didn’t answer.

“There’s nothing going on between me and her.

“If it bothers you that much, I’ll have HR move her to one of the satellite offices. Out of sight.”

The comments lost it.

[NOOO if she gets transferred the romance arc is dead!]

[Relax, they’re endgame. Even if she transfers, they’ll find their way back.]

[The ML is ending up with Willow no matter what. The ex-wife is just delaying the inevitable.]

“Don’t bother. Do whatever you want.”

Miles opened his mouth, then thought better of it.

He told me to stay put, then disappeared into the kitchen. I heard him scraping the pan, running water, finishing what I’d started.

Halfway through the meal, my phone buzzed.

An interview invitation.

Lumina Entertainment.

The entertainment company I’d dreamed about since college, the one that worked with every A-list star in the industry.

Including Julian Thorne, the star I’d been obsessed with forever.

I tapped accept before I could second-guess myself, and a grin crept across my face.

Miles looked up sharply. “Who’s that?”

“A job interview. I’m done being a housewife.”

For the first time in days, I actually had an appetite. I cleaned my plate.

Miles watched me, something clearly on the tip of his tongue. He let it go.

Maybe he didn’t want to ruin the first smile he’d seen from me in days.

After breakfast, Miles headed to the office. I swapped my dress for a sharp blazer and trousers, something that actually felt like me.

The interview went well.

But a company like Lumina didn’t make decisions fast. There’d be a second round, maybe a third, before anything was official.

Over the next few days, Miles got busier. Or at least, that’s what he called it.

He came home later every night.

And sometimes, when he walked past me, I caught it: perfume that wasn’t mine clinging to his collar.

I knew then. He never transferred her.

But I’d already made my decision. If this was ending, I was going to be ready when it did.
