The Don’s Regret: His Obedient Donna Is the Lost Heiress! Chapter 04

On the weekend, I packed the last of my luggage. Two books, and a personal laptop.

When Alarion pushed open the bedroom door, I was zipping up my suitcase.

He glanced at the black case, his brow furrowed tightly.

“Where are you going?”

I straightened up, my voice flat.

“I’m going home.”

Alarion visibly exhaled in relief. In his mind, my home was that small town outside New York, completely under his control.

He walked over, wrapped his arms around my waist from behind, and rested his chin on my shoulder.

“It’s good to go home and clear your head. Once I finish my work in a few days, I’ll come pick you up myself.

“Then we’ll pick a new wedding venue. Where do you want to go? Paris, Italy?”

He cooed softly in my ear, as if nothing had ever happened between us.

I didn’t struggle. I just quietly looked at us in the mirror.

His eyes were full of certainty—certain I was just throwing a tantrum, that I couldn’t leave him.

“What time’s your flight tomorrow? Should I drive you?”

“Sure, ten in the morning.”

I wanted you to personally, see me off.

The next morning, Alarion surprisingly canceled his morning meeting and drove me to the airport himself.

Soft music played the whole ride. He glanced over at me every few minutes, a smile playing on his lips.

“Say hi to your parents for me, tell them I’ll come visit properly next time.

“Spend as much as you want on the card, buy whatever you like.”

I stared out the window at the passing scenery and laughed coldly to myself.

Would there even be a next time?

When the car pulled onto the overpass, Alarion’s phone suddenly buzzed nonstop.

He glanced at the screen and answered immediately.

“Ismeria, what’s wrong?”

Ismeria’s tearful voice came through the line.

“Alarion, my chest hurts so bad all of a sudden, I can’t breathe…

“Can you come see me?”

Alarion’s face flooded with anxiety. He tightened his grip on the steering wheel, hit the turn signal quickly, and pulled smoothly onto the emergency shoulder.

“Don’t panic, take your medicine, I’m on my way!”

After hanging up, he turned to look at me, his eyes full of urgency and apology.

“Virelle, something came up with Ismeria.”

“I’ll have my driver turn around and take you, he’ll be here in ten minutes. … Is that okay?”

He’d already unlocked the doors.

I looked at how impatient he was to leave and found it almost funny.

Couldn’t he see Ismeria’s pathetic little trick? It was just the difference between being loved and not.

“Okay.”

I pushed the door open, grabbed my suitcase, and got out.

“Text me when you get there safe.”

He rolled down the window, glanced at me, hesitated for a moment, and finally just said, “Be careful on the road.”

Then he hit the gas, and the Maybach roared off, leaving me standing in a cloud of exhaust.

I stood on the expressway shoulder, watching the car disappear into the flow of traffic.

This was the last time I’d ever see the back of his car.

I pulled out my phone, deleted Alarion’s number, blocked all contacts from the Morvane family.

Then I dialed the encrypted number for the Sanzaro family.

“I don’t need the car.”

I looked toward the distant airport, my voice steady.

“Tell the private jet to take off early.”

When I was done, I dropped the pregnancy test and the password-locked bank card into a same-city envelope, addressed to Alarion’s villa.

A broadcast blared from the speaker at the private terminal.

“Private flight to London has been cleared for departure.”

I turned off my phone.

This time, I really wasn’t coming back.

Meanwhile, at St. Aurelia Clinic.

Alarion looked at the sleeping Ismeria and adjusted his tie.

The doctor said Ismeria only had low blood sugar, she wasn’t actually sick.

So childish. Virelle would never do that.

Alarion stood outside the ward, his face dark for a few seconds, before finally pulling out his phone and texting me.

[Did you get there okay? It’s windy on the overpass, don’t catch a cold.]

He hit send.

But a “fail to send” notification popped up on the screen…
