I Returned the Heart, but the Wolf King Gave Me His Chapter 05

I Returned the Heart, but the Wolf King Gave Me His Chapter 05

Patricia’s pov

Alpha Michael’s face went pale-something I had rarely, if ever, seen.

He stared at the heart in my hands. He didn’t say a word.

“Patricia Moore, you really expect us to believe you just cut out Elizabeth’s heart?”

“Sure, and I cut out my own heart too, while we’re at it!”

“Yeah, anyone can buy some fake heart off the black market and claim they carved it out of their

chest.”

“Exactly. She’s just scared. She doesn’t want to do this year’s extreme challenge.”

“Alpha Michael, she used Elizabeth’s heart-so she has to accept Elizabeth’s passions!”

They jeered at me.

I didn’t say a single word. I just looked at Alpha Michael.

“Alpha Michael, it was my fault back then. If I hadn’t ruined my dress, Elizabeth wouldn’t have

given me her jacket…”

“These last three years-all your hatred, all your punishments-I’ve accepted them.”

“But I really did go to Wolf Pack Hospital. I really had Elizabeth’s heart removed. I’m giving it back

to you.”

“Let’s end this hatred between us. Today.”

I reached for the heart removal surgery records from Wolf Pack Hospital-

Suddenly, Mary-who was standing beside Alpha Michael-stumbled and fell right next to me.

She slammed into the medical cooler in my hands. It crashed to the ground. The ice pack holding

Elizabeth’s heart tumbled out.

The surgery papers in my hand were soaked through, every word bleeding into illegibility.

“Patricia Moore! I’m so sorry, it was an accident!”

“Is the heart okay?”

Mary scrambled on the ground, reaching frantically to pick it up.

She held Elizabeth’s heart against her own chest, comparing them.

“Alpha Michael. Look.”

“This can’t possibly be a wolf’s heart. A wolf’s heart isn’t this small.”

“It’s obviously a fake. A handmade heart from the black market.”

Alpha Michael snatched the ice pack from her hands and hurled it to the ground.

“Patricia Moore. You’re trying to pull a stunt this childish?”

“You call this Elizabeth’s heart?”

“Where do you get the nerve to pass off some black-market fake as an Alpha’s heart?”

“Patricia Moore. Answer me!”

His roar echoed above me.

The artificial heart in my chest kept beating, steady and calm.

“Alpha Michael. That is Elizabeth’s heart.”

“If you don’t believe me, go to Wolf Pack Hospital. Have the pack doctor show you the surgical

records-”

Alpha Michael grabbed my arm and yanked me to my feet before I could finish.

“Wolf Pack Hospital?!”

“And how do I know you didn’t pay off the pack doctor there?”

“Patricia Moore, I’ll tell you how this works. You killed Elizabeth. And today, you are doing this challenge. That’s final.”

His voice was ice in my ear. His grip on my arm ground into the bone.

“What’s the event you planned?” Alpha Michael demanded.

“Alpha Michael-extreme mountain biking.”

“Elizabeth’s grave is at the top of the hill. Racing straight down from there? Now that’s a thrill.”

“Bikes are already set up.”

“Just give the word, and we’ll get Patricia Moore on one right now.”

Alpha Michael’s Alpha King friends practically tripped over themselves to answer, their eyes

gleaming with a wolf’s hunger for adrenaline.

I froze. My body started trembling on instinct.

During that pileup years ago, Elizabeth and I were trapped in the car together.

I nearly died in that cramped metal cage. More than once.

I haven’t been able to drive since.

“Alpha Michael! I can’t do this!”

I shouted and fumbled for my phone, dialing the pack doctor.

“Alpha Michael, if you don’t believe me, I’ll call the pack doctor right now and prove it-”

But I never finished.

Mary suddenly grabbed my hand.

“Patricia Moore… weren’t you going to Wolf Pack Hospital to get an abortion?”
