Wed To The Mafia, Wedded To Revenge Chapter 04

Wed To The Mafia, Wedded To Revenge Chapter 04

With my plan drawing near its end, I craved a moment of release.

When Cassian’s lips brushed my shoulder that night, I did not push him away.

I flipped off the bedside lamp and covered his eyes with my palm.

The spot beside me was cold and empty when I woke the next morning.

Cassian sat fully dressed on the living room sofa.

He was usually in the family chapel for early morning meetings by this hour.

He stood up the moment he saw me walk out.

“You’re awake. Come have breakfast. I’ll drive you to the office afterward.”

I glanced at the food laid out on the table.

Cassian had spent so little time in this house over the years. My own schedule was erratic as well. Breakfast had never been a priority for either of us.

I sat down and nibbled slowly on a slice of bread.

I tried to recall the last time we had shared a meal at this table. It had been months ago.

Cassian insisted on driving me to work after we finished eating.

I knew his sudden change of heart stemmed from Mira’s words and our conversation the night before.

It would be easier for both of us to return to our old distant routine.

“You don’t need to do this. Your time is valuable. Don’t waste it on trivial things.”

He had spoken those exact words to me right after our wedding. Now the roles were reversed.

Cassian reached out and wrapped his hand around my wrist, his gaze locked on mine.

“You are Mrs. Moreau. You are my wife.”

His words meant nothing to me now. I could not understand why he was acting differently just as my long-awaited revenge was about to unfold.

I stepped out of the car at the company entrance, and Mira stared in shock when she saw me exit Cassian’s vehicle.

I took the box of candy he held out to me and turned down his offer to pick me up that evening.

I had personal plans for the afternoon and left without Mira or my driver.

Halfway through my trip, my phone rang. It was Leone.

Cassian had been in a car accident. He had received several stitches on his arm.

I froze for a second.

“Ms. De Santis, would you like to come to the hospital to see him?” Leone asked carefully.

He had always only relayed messages between Cassian and me before, never asking personal questions.

I glanced at the road ahead. The drive to the hospital would take over an hour.

“I have urgent matters to attend to right now. I’ll visit once I’m finished.”

Leone agreed quickly and hung up the phone in a rush.

Right before the line cut off, I heard Cassian’s cold voice telling him to end the call.

The sun shone brightly overhead as I arrived at the old Catholic church, which was always crowded with visitors.

Everyone here prayed for wishes they feared would never come true.

I visited so often that the nuns knew me well. They led me straight to Father Silas.

Father Silas looked at the lit candle marked with Matteo’s name.

“You have kept this flame burning for ten long years, Seraphina.”

My eyes fell to the candle.

“Let it burn for one more month.”

The elderly priest sighed softly.

“Child, grief is not devotion. Sometimes it is nothing more than a cage.”

His words echoed in my mind as I walked numbly out of the church.

A hesitant voice called my name.

“Seraphina?”
