The Body Swap That Made Her a Billionaire—and Me Awake Chapter 04

The Body Swap That Made Her a Billionaire—and Me Awake Chapter 04

Kayden’s long, pale fingers cut through the air and stopped, aimed straight at Lena.

At the woman wearing Evelyn’s face.

“Her.”

His voice was rough but firm.

“She’s the very person who made my days miserable nonstop.”

The room was so quiet you could hear the heart monitor beeping.

The victorious smile on Lena’s face froze solid.

Her eyes went wide, and she shook her head like crazy.

“That can’t be true! You’re still foggy from your head injury!”

“I’m Evelyn Blake! I’m the one who nursed you these three months!”

She lunged for the bed, trying to grab Kayden’s hand, but a security guard got sent sprawling flat on her face.

“Stay back!” he barked.

Flat on the cold tiles, Lena screamed up at Arthur, her face covered in tears and mucus.

“Mr. Hatfield, please! I’m the one who cared for him! He’s confused! He’s mixing me up with my evil sister!”

Arthur’s brows knitted together. The veins on his hand bulged as he gripped his cane.

“Kayden, you just woke up. Are you sure you’re thinking clearly? I’m here. You don’t have to be afraid. Just tell

me who hurt you.”

“I’m perfectly lucid,” Kayden said, propped up against his pillows.

His face was still pale, but his dark eyes were full of cold fury. He turned to Lena and gave her a sharp, hard

look, then laughed bitterly.

“You’ve visited twenty-seven times in three months.”

“The first time, you called me a useless cripple and kicked over hot water that burned the person caring for

me.”

“The fifth time, you dug your nails into my healing wounds and complained about how I smelled”

“And just now, you leaned close to my ear and told me you’d spent months wishing I’d die. You asked how I

was still breathing.”

With every word, Lena’s face went paler. By the end, she had collapsed on the floor, shaking uncontrollably,

her teeth chattering.

“No… that’s not true… I never said those things… I’m Evelyn.”

She kept lying, her face covered in tears and snot.

Arthur’s face turned black as thunder. He raised his cane and slammed it down on the floor next to Lena.

“You vicious, scheming wretch! You dared plot against the Hatfield family!”

The old man laughed, but there was no humor in it. Only murderous intent.

Then Kayden’s gaze drifted past the crowd and landed on Evelyn-the woman trapped inside Lena’s body.

The harshness in his eyes faded, replaced by something soft and tender.

“And her.”

Kayden pointed at Evelyn.

“She’s the one who took care of me for three months. She bathed me, fed me medicine, and pulled me back from the edge of death.”

A murmur ran through the security team. The men holding Evelyn’s shoulders loosened their grip.

Arthur stared in shock, looking between Evelyn and his grandson.

“Kayden, are you absolutely sure?”

“Grandpa,” Kayden cut him off, his voice steady, “I could never mix up the woman who’s been by my side through everything.”

The comments went wild:

[Wait a sec, she’s trapped in Lena’s skin! How on earth did he spot the truth?]

[Her whole face and voice are different. Does he have a sixth sense or something?]

[Is this just a lucky guess? What if he got it totally wrong?]

Evelyn stared up at the man on the bed, tears welling in her eyes.

He’d recognized her.

Beneath everyone’s confused stares, Kayden slowly stretched out his right pinky finger

“You want to know how I know?” he said, his voice hoarse. “I’ll tell you.”

“On countless nights these past three months, when the pain was so bad I thought I was going to break she was the one who looped her pinky around mine and told me not to be afraid.”

“When my heart monitor started screaming in the middle of the night, she held my hand and promised she wasn’t going anywhere.

Kayden’s eyes glistened. He took a shaky breath and put every bit of his heart into his next words.

“No one else on this earth knows I’m terrified of sleeping alone.”

“No one else leaves a light on all night just to keep watch over a man who can’t even move.”

“Faces can change. Voices can change. But the warmth and the devotion she gave me… that’s etched into

my bones. I would never fail to recognize it. Not even if it cost me my life.”

Evelyn couldn’t hold back her tears anymore. They rolled silently down her cheeks. Trapped behind Lena’s

unfamiliar face, she reached out and curled her pinky, just a little.

Kayden responded right away. He hooked his pinky through the air, as if reaching across the swap to lock

onto hers.

The comments exploded: [I’m crying. True love wins.]

[That hex is nothing compared to real feelings.]

[Kayden is the GOAT. He fell for her soul, not her looks.]

[Lena plotted and plotted and still got played. That’s what she gets.]

Realizing her plan had failed completely, Lena snapped. She screamed and lunged at Evelyn like a

madwoman.

“You witch! What did you do to wrap him around your finger? Give me back what’s mine! I’m the real Evelyn

Blake!”

She never even touched Evelyn’s clothes. Two security men slammed her face-first into the floor and pinned

her down.

“Drag this lying schemer away,” Arthur ordered in a thunderous voice. “Lock her in the private cell. No one

gives her any food unless I say so. She’s about to learn the meaning of suffering.”

“Yes, sir.”

As the guards dragged Lena out, kicking and screaming, she fixed a venomous stare on Evelyn and mouthed a silent threat: [Your win won’t last.]

Evelyn watched her get hauled away, but she felt no relief.

Because she knew the curse from that voodoo swap was only just beginning.
