The Child I Carry Is Not Your Heir Chapter 06

The Child I Carry Is Not Your Heir Chapter 06

He cut his own sentence short, a flicker of guilty remorse clouding his gaze as he fixed his eyes on me.

I lifted one shoulder in a casual shrug to signal I didn’t mind his unfinished thought.

“Since everyone’s so curious about my husband, he’ll walk through that door any minute now.”

The entrance swung open right on cue.

A refined, poised gentleman wandered toward me with a gentle smile. “Sorry for running late.”

The silver fork slipped from Jay’s grip and clattered loudly against his dinner plate.

The distinguished-looking man exchanged polite greetings with every person in the room.

I stood and walked over to pull him toward Chloe for an introduction. “I promised you’d be the first to meet him. This is my future husband, my baby’s father, and our old schoolmate, Sam.”

Chloe’s eyes blew wide open, stammering in shock.

“That’s the chubby little boy from back then? How did he transform into such a handsome man?”

“When did you reconnect, and how did your relationship progress this quickly?”

I laid out the full story plainly.

“He left the country abruptly due to unexpected family troubles half a decade back and only came home six months ago to launch his own startup company. I was hired to oversee interior design work for his new office space.”

“As for his dramatic weight loss? He claims foreign food never suited his appetite, and constant homesickness naturally shed all his extra pounds.”

I’d glossed over critical details deliberately.

His past was tangled up in messy gang conflicts better left unmentioned.

Sam stared at me full of tender fondness, nodding along to every word I shared.

“Grace’s telling the truth. She didn’t recognize me at first, so I had to introduce myself all over again.”

A sheepish smile tugged at his lips.

I’d felt an instant sense of fate that day, so we swapped contact info and grew closer step by step…”

All guests lit up with genuine joy after hearing our story, despite occasional petty squabbles over the years,

everyone truly wished each other lasting happiness.

“You two make such a lovely matched pair now, you’re more than worthy of Grace.”

“You look oddly familiar, I swear I’ve seen your face somewhere before.”

“Lock in your wedding date fast, I’m claiming maid of honor duties!”

Before I could name a single timeline, Jay shot to his feet after a long heavy silence, his face dark as storm

clouds.

“Grace, how much longer do you plan on keeping this ridiculous farce up?”

I blinked in total confusion. “What on earth am I supposedly messing around with?”

He tilted his head, his sharp glare sharp enough to bore holes straight through my skin.

“You know exactly who the baby’s biological father is yet spin these lies just to get under my skin. Have you

once stopped to consider custody of that unborn child?”

A quiet laugh escaped me.

Even after all this time, he remained fully convinced he’d fathered my baby.

He’d even fooled himself into thinking I’d been the woman beside him that night three months prior.

I spoke slowly and calmly. “I’m one hundred percent certain Sam is my child’s dad.”

“Meanwhile, what are you so dead-set on arguing about?”

Jay’s piercing stare never left my frame, burning with stubborn disbelief.

“I get it now. You’ve staged this entire elaborate show to force me into admitting this baby belongs to me,

isn’t that your whole scheme?”

I fell speechless, baffled by his wildly illogical train of thought.

Yvonne froze beside him and tugged lightly on his jacket sleeve, gesturing for him to sit back down.

“What are you doing? You’re embarrassing us both, drop this pointless fight.”

For the very first time, Jay ignored her plea despite always obeying every request she made.

Sam stepped firmly in front of me to shield my body, thick hostile tension crackling between the two men.

Chloe’s temper flared as she snapped sharp accusations into the room. “Some men truly have no decency! They want nothing to do with a woman yet slander her just to feed their fragile egos. They waste their

chance when they have it then throw petty fits fighting for what’s never theirs.”

“Chasing two women at once makes you nothing more than a spineless coward.”

Her blunt words flushed Jay’s cheeks bright crimson all the way to his jawline.

Yvonne’s own mood soured drastically.

She’d arrived excited to celebrate her boyfriend’s party only to get dragged into an ugly unnecessary

argument.

Proud by nature, public humiliation stung her worse than any insult imaginable.

I breathed out a quiet weary sigh, knowing I had to lay every fact bare to end Jay’s endless outbursts.

I locked eyes with him, my tone utterly sincere and unwavering.

“It wasn’t me sharing your bed three months ago.”
