She Asked Us to Give Up SATs for a Million-Dollar Promise Chapter 11

The three boys I had grown up with broke down in misery and came to wait outside my building several times, trying to see me.

But every time, my parents drove them away.

As for that old group chat, I had left it long ago.

I simply didn’t want anything to do with those people anymore.

When the SAT scores came out on schedule, I was the top scorer in the state.

My school’s website, the local news headlines, and the local Board of Education website were all filled with announcements celebrating my score.

Everyone online was congratulating me.

I was in the spotlight, with every door wide open ahead of me.

On the day I left for Boston for college, I ran into the three boys at the airport.

They looked utterly wretched and defeated, their eyes clouded with regret and despair.

Ethan staggered toward me.

“Evelyn, I… I’ll wait for you to come back. We agreed that we’d get married after graduation.”

I was so angry I laughed.

“Do you really think you’re still worthy of me? Besides, didn’t you already fall for someone else?”

Ethan’s lips moved, but he couldn’t defend himself.

“I… I’m sorry.”

What he really wanted to say was that he hadn’t.

He had only lost his head for a while. He had only thought that he and I still had plenty of time.

He had only pitied Stella. He had never truly thought about being with her.

Mason shoved Ethan aside and ran up to me, his voice hoarse.

“I didn’t. Evelyn, I’ve always liked you. I only chose to side with Stella and go against you because I was angry. I was angry that you chose Ethan.”

I frowned.

Across two lifetimes, I had never imagined the reason would be so ridiculous and absurd.

Logan said nothing. He only looked at me with eyes full of bitterness and regret.

I gave them one last calm glance, then turned and walked forward without ever looking back.

One month after school started, I received terrible news.

Stella was dead.

She had been pushed off the school rooftop and smashed beyond recognition.

The culprits were, naturally, Ethan and the other two.

I closed my eyes.

Stella had walked the same path I had in my previous life.

On my phone, a female reporter was still covering the shocking news.

“According to reports, these three students are the same ones who once believed a prank app and skipped the SATs. Out of resentment toward the victim, they pushed her from the rooftop.”

Behind the reporter, Mason looked deranged and kept laughing.

“Hahaha! That damn bitch deserved it! She deserved it!”

Logan, meanwhile, stared blankly as he was handcuffed, making no attempt to struggle.

The final shot froze on Ethan’s face, contorted with pain and devastation.

“I’m sorry, Evelyn. I’m sorry. We avenged you. We avenged you!”

I exited the news page and took a deep breath.

Just then, my roommate pushed the door open.

“Hurry up, Evelyn. I just saw a seriously hot upperclassman. I mean, wow.”

“Okay, okay.”
